Shooting rattles San Bernardino neighborhood, man wounded

SAN BERNARDINO - Residents of a Westside neighborhood were badly shaken when several men started shooting at each other in the street early Saturday afternoon.
"I was in the kitchen when I heard the shots and I looked outside and saw guys running and shooting, so me and my four kids hit the floor," said Aparicio Armenta, who lives on the street where the shooting took place. "It was very scary to have it happen right in front of our house."

San Bernardino Police responded to a call about 2:30 p.m. at the corner of 14th Street and Massachusetts Avenue of subjects shooting at each other. Police then followed a blood trail and found one shooting victim at the back of a house in the 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue, said Sgt. Brad Lawrence.

His wounds appeared to be non life-threatening, he said. The man was taken to a hospital, but was not arrested.

Minutes after the shooting, concerned neighbors stood on their porches, the sidewalk and in front of a nearby liquor store talking about what happened.

Francisco Garcia, who lives on Magnolia Street, said he was taking a nap when he heard several gunshots behind his house.

"It was a commotion and when I looked out I saw police and neighbors starting to gather," he said. "It was pretty unusal for the middle of a Saturday afternoon."

A woman named Gogo, who did not want to give her last name, said she was at a meeting in the neighborhood when she heard about six gunshots.

I understand the people giving statements have the right to NOT provide last names but, damn, in situations like these, it really could be a potential danger for the media to put complete names in an article.
