Moreno Valley Gang Member Convicted

A jury convicted a Moreno Valley gang member this morning of shooting a 15-year-old boy near Vista Del Lago High School in February 2007.

The jury found Christopher Butler, 22, guilty of murder and a special circumstance of killing by a street gang murder in the shooting of Allen Anthony White.

The jury returned their verdict late this morning after deliberating all day Monday.

Prosecutors said Butler killed White in a gang initiation hit outside the school because White was part of a rival gang.

Defense attorneys said Butler was acting in self-defense and fired the gun accidentally when he intended to shoot it in the air and disperse a group of people White was standing with.

Butler faces life in prison without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced for the charges.
