Asteroid Apophis: God of Death, Were the Egyptians Right?

Apophis, discovered in 2004, went zooming by Wednesday night, January 9, 2013. It was predicted to come within 9.3 million miles of Earth. European Space Agency officials announced that its infrared Herschel Space Observatory discovered not long ago that Apophis is about 1,066 feet wide, nearly 20 percent larger than a previous estimate of 885 feet. "The 20 percent increase in diameter ... translates into a 75 percent increase in our estimates of the asteroid's volume or mass," said Thomas Mueller of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany.

Also, the asteroid has a much different reflectivity than previously thought; 0.23 rather than the previous estimates of 0.33. This changes astronomer's calculations of the Yarkovsky effect, or how the Sun's heating and cooling influence will alter the asteroid's progress in orbit

Scientists were quietly concerned that the large size of Apophis, which is named after the Egyptian God of Death, could cause havoc with Earth satellite transmissions and possibly with Earth’s own gravitational field on this fly-by. Would waves of rogue gravity, like choppy water, create disasters on Earth? Would solar flares become a bigger problem than usual as Apophis passed by? These were small fears percentage wise, according to the scientists involved.

Now Apophis has indeed passed safely.

However, what of its next fly-by? That happens on April 13, 2029, and it will come within 22,364 miles of Earth this time. That is very close!

Asteroid Apophis has long been billed as a "doomsday asteroid." A study in 2004 said that there is a 2.7 percent chance of this space rock hitting Earth when it returns in 2029.
Now scientists claim that 2029 is safe but are worried somewhat about its next pass in 2036.

In recent years, Apophis has generated the most concern worldwide because of its extremely close approach in 2029 and chances of a potential impact in 2036.

Here is the big worry: If Apophis touched or passed through a gravitational zone of Earth on January 9, 2013, its path will change just enough to make sure that it will most likely hit the Earth on April 13, 2036. According to Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium, if it has passed through the center of the gravitational “keyhole” it'll hit the Pacific off Santa Monica, California and “sandblast the Western seaboard” with the resulting wave of tsunamis.

Apophis, the Egyptian God of Death, its other deadly impact on earth.

There are several mind-boggling concepts which spring to mind from Apophis’ flights: Is there such a thing as “future memory?” Earth and its humans seem to be in a state of declining health. Many species suffer from immune deficiency diseases and mental health is also a growing problem among humans. Societies are disintegrating and the climate is radically imbalanced. The Arctic melts, oceans rise.

What if Apophis as the God of Death, is the real deal Doomsday Asteroid, either in 2029 or 2036?

Perhaps the quantum field on which spirit and consciousness dwell, senses or “remembers” way back in 2013 – this Doomsday of the Future. After all, there is no “time” in the quantum world. Do Earth’s creatures, with our morphic fields of consciousness, sense that the end is near with their future memory? Are waves of disruption rolling back from 2036, thus affecting us today? Is this why we are obsessed with “Doomsday?”

2029 sounds so long from now. There's no way of knowing that any one of us will still be alive by then, so fuck it.

Resigning Pope Brings Doomsday Prophecy

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Is the world only a Pope away from the End? Yes, if you believe a chilling 12th-century prophecy. Attributed to St. Malachy, an Irish archbishop canonized in 1190, the Prophecy of the Popes would date to 1139. The document predicted that there would be only 112 more popes before the Last Judgment — and Benedict XVI is 111.
The list of popes originated from a vision Malachy said he received from God when he was in Rome, reporting on his diocese to Pope Innocent II.

The story goes that St. Malachy gave the apocalyptic list to Innocent II and that the document remained unknown in the Vatican Archives some 440 years after Malachy's death in 1148. It was rediscovered and published by Benedictine Arnold de Wyon in 1590.

The prophecy consists of brief, cryptic phrases in Latin about each Pope. It ends with the 112th pope, named "Petrus Romanus" or "Peter the Roman."

According to the premonition, Peter the Roman would "feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the City of the Seven Hills shall be utterly destroyed, and the awful Judge will judge the people."

Often highly enigmatic, several prophetical announcements in the document appear to have come true.

For example, Malachy prophesied the first pope on his list would be "from a castle on the Tiber." Celestine II, elected in 1143, was born in Toscany on the shores of the Tiber River.

Malachy predicted another pope would be "elevated from a hermit." Nicholas IV, pope from 1288 to 1292, had been a hermit in the monastery of Pouilles.

The 45th pope in the prophecy is described as coming "from the hell of Pregnani". Indeed, Pope Urban VI (1378-1389) was born Domenico Prignano and came from a village near Naples called Inferno (hell).

Most scholars consider the document a 16th-century elaborate hoax. Until 1590, when the prophecy was published, the mottoes were easily derived from the pope's family, baptismal names, native places or coats of arms.

After 1590 the epithets become much more vague. According to the Catholic Pages, "the inclusion of anti-popes would also appear to militate against the authenticity of the prophecies."
