RIVERSIDE, Calif., March 2 (UPI) -- A Riverside, Calif., man shot and killed by a police officer early Thursday had a loaded gun, investigators said.

Brandon James Dunbar, 26, was described as a known gang member who was on parole after being convicted of a felony, the Los Angeles Times reported. His status made carrying a gun illegal.

Sgt. David Amador of the Riverside police said Dunbar was riding in a car that was pulled over because of problems with the license plate. Dunbar ran off with police in pursuit.

The officer who shot him said Dunbar, holding a gun, turned to face him in a backyard.

"He ran with a weapon and turned on an officer, and you just don't do that," Amador said.

The driver of the car was not arrested.

Anybody know where dude is supposed to be from?

I've seen a few things odd about this story though. For one, why does the guy have to be "a known gang member"? What does that have to do with anything, especially if they claimed to ONLY pull him over for a random traffic violation (fix it ticket). Secondly, why were they asked to exit the vehicle for a "random" traffic pull-over violation? And third, why would he be running with a gun out if he wasn't going to, or planning to use it? And just because he turned HIS HEAD to see if the cop was close enough behind him (or if he lost him) does not mean he actually turned his whole body around and pointed a gun at the officer. Something doesnt sound right. Again, they mentioned NOTHING about if they were aside the car, they just said when they pulled up and asked the two occupants to exit the vehicle, the passenger fled on foot. That raises the question again, as to why where they asked to step outside the vehicle. An important detail that is missing. He was just the passenger so he DEFINATELY should not have even been spoken to AT ALL from the officers, particularily in a traffic violation stop. Sounds more like harassment gone bad to me. I understand fleeing knowing that when you step out a search is absolute but to pull it out and not use it is strange to me. If i pull my pistol, i'm using it. All he had to do was buss one shot and that would have slowed they roll a bit, enough to make a clean get-a-way, depending on what you good for. Then again, if he was rollin with a snitch, they would have caught up with him eventually anyway. I think they said it was like 2:30-3 in the morning. Too late to be running around and shit. Go to jail. Fuck it. But again, why where they even asked to step out the car in the first place??? Just because they was young, black and it was late?? Hmm..

Man Jae I had the same feeling, doin research for the site I have been runnin across all kinds of police shootings and I found that most of them have something odd sticcing out about them. That same day or day before a PPHG got killed by the police and he did have a gun in his hand also but with there being 2 police shootings in one day and at that both men involved were blacc males and supposed gangsters??? Read up on a police shooting that happened on Jaccson involving Tyrone Brooks. Then theres the countless Affrunti shootings. Most cities have very skeptical ones and no city I have read about yet except out in the Desert Empire have had a police death by a gang member. The closest was Rialto but the gang member was a member of the RPD. I might be wrong on that but im pretty sure every shooting where the suspect shot the cop the cop lived. To bad the police shoot with deadly accuracy tho right.
