Rancho Cucamonga man,18,shot ,killed while out for a walk

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - An 18-year-old man died Wednesday night after being gunned down while out on a walk.
Ruben Martinez of Rancho Cucamonga was out shortly before 11 p.m. in the area of Effen Street and Center Avenue when he was shot multiple times in the upper body by an unidentified person, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies and emergency personnel found Martinez at the southeast corner of the intersection and provided medical aid.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities received several calls from people who heard gunshots in the area, said sheriff's spokeswoman Arden Wiltshire, and a person was seen running to a dark-colored sedan that left the scene going west on Effen.

Deputies closed off several surrounding streets while investigating the crime scene Thursday morning.

Wiltshire said it was too early in the investigation to confirm any gang activity.

"That's something we're working on to determine. But right now, we just don't know," she said.

The sheriff's Homicide Detail is seeking the public's help in identifying the person involved in the shooting. Anyone with information can contact Detective Ryan Ford or Sgt. Frank Montanez at (909) 387-3589.
