‎Something stinks.
A foul odor is wafting over the region reported as far west as Riverside and Menifee.
So far no one can say what is causing the sulfuric smell.
Some have theorized that the smell could be coming from the fish die off at the Salton Sea. However, officials with the Salton Sea Authority say that smell would not reach this far west.
Meteorologists say winds at the Salton Sea are calm and any odors from the area would diverge from a different air current.

"On Earth, elemental sulfur can be found near hot springs and volcanic regions in many parts of the world"..."On Earth,....elemental sulfur occurs naturally in volcanic emissions, including emissions from hydrothermal vents." -wikipedia
just another think on the long list of weird ass natural phenomena. WE ALL FINNA DIE!

I've been smelling this stench since early yesterday morning. I walked out today and it smelled even stronger. Neighbors called the gas company, some even called 911 (lol), and no explanation. The national weather service is saying that it's related to the weather, while others are saying it's related to "decay" in the Salton Sea. hmmm.

I've lived in southern Cal my entire live and never experienced this. People from everywhere, LA, all the way to Banning, have been reporting the smell.

Strange....

People living along the Salton Sea have said that they've experienced 3 earthquakes in the past few days, which has prompted people to believe that a rupture has occurred along the fault line causing the sulfuric gas to leak out.

But again, no one has been able to pin-point the exact source of the smell. Strange.

Hello Everyone...

I cover subjects like this one, on my website every day...
I have been waiting for a headline about this particular thing and now I have seen it and all ur comments here this morning.

This is a sign of a volcanic eruption event...and I have a sneaking suspicion that it could be Yellowstone...we had a 3.7 Mag. there the other day and there has been ground swell and recent animal deaths in the area.

The reason that the sulfur smell is widespread is becuz Yellowstone is no ordinary volcano...it is a Super Volcano - most likely, with magma tubes stretching underground in all directions for hundreds of miles.

If it erupts...total devastation up to 100 miles radius will occur.

Strong damage over 1,000 miles radius in all directions.

It will affect as far east as Washington, D.C.- from what I have read and heard.

There really is no escaping this one, unless you head extreme South or extreme North or leave the country all together.

If the smell increases or you notice dead animals on the roadside or other anomalies, notify the authorities in your areas immediately.

Stay Safe.
Layna.
Vancouver, Canada.

From a forum I just visited. Not saying I actually believe this is the case, but I found it interesting.

lawlz i was thinkin the same thing kyte
but there are hot springs all over so cal, the more likely scenario, in my humble opinion, is that some of these quakes ruptured some sort of sulfur chamber or some shit. because if this was a sign of volcanic activity from Yellowstone, there would be reports of this in Yellowstone and northern California.

the quakes themselves on the other hand, are precursores to a larger quake, also in my opinion.

This is what I'm leaning towards believing as well. And considering that area has been hit with a swarm of small quakes within the last few days, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Just look at how many quakes struck over there today alone:

The interesting thing is that no seismologists has been able to confirm "our" theory. And honestly, I'm not sure that it's actually possible, at least from what I've been reading.

Here's something else I came across earlier today that I found interesting about sulfuric odors over a widespread area.

Some eye-witness accounts of several major earthquakes - there are many claims of strong sulfur smells before large earthquakes:

http://trilogymedia.com.au/Thomas_Gold/eyewit.html

"Also, according to Edgar Larkin (1906), who collected a great many accounts, the odour of hydrogen sulphide was noted in the area of Sausalito. He also reported that sulfurous odors were pungent in Napa County during the night of the 17th and 18th before the upheaval, and lasted all day. . . . From many of the letters it is clear that the entire region north and east of San Francisco is saturated with gases of sulfur origin. . . ."

"In Santa Rosa, according to Lawson and others (1908), a strong smell of sulphur had been noticed two days before the earthquake by one Charles Kobes. Since during an earthquake eight years previously, "sulfur fumes came up from under his house which almost drove his family from home", the recurrence of this phenomenon on 16 April 1906 caused Kobes to tell his family that there would be another earthquake."

In my almost 40 years in southern California, I can honestly say that I've never experienced such a thing.

I'm no proponent of fear-mongering; I'm not trying to scare anybody. But it's interesting and good to be prepared just in case something does happen.

Also, I just walked outside and noticed that the smell has subsided a bit.
