Police Ambushed: Gun battle in San Bernardino sends one officer, two suspects to hospital
SAN BERNARDINO -- In the second ambush against law enforcement officers in the last two weeks, gunfire erupted on city streets Friday night sending an officer and two suspects to the hospital after officers were ambushed by four gunmen during a traffic stop, authorities said.
The two officers attempted to stop the blue four-door sedan around 9:12 p.m. after it pulled into a liquor store at the corner of Base Line and Sierra Way, police officials said.
"The car pulled into the lot and four armed individuals stepped out of the car and started shooting at the patrol officers," said police Lt. Paul Williams. "Multiple shots were exchanged between officers and the suspects."
One officer, the passenger in the two-man patrol car, was struck in the leg, Williams said.
"Two of the suspects were wounded in the barrage of gunfire," he said. The two other suspects are being sought, police said.
A man arrested last night in connection with the shooting has been released and is no longer a suspect, police said Saturday.
The wounded officer was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he is being treated for his wounds, police officials said.
Base Line near Sierra Way is closed as detectives investigate the shooting. On July 16 as deputies were serving an eviction notice in the 1400 block
of East Date Street, Miguel Alvarez is accused of driving up to the deputies as they sat in their patrol car and firing multiple shots striking one of them.
Deputies returned fire striking the car but not Alvarez.
That deputy who was wounded was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda where he was treated and released.
Authorities captured Alvarez on Elmwood Road, south of of Highland Avenue, and a vehicle matching the description of the car in the shooting. He was not wounded.
The motive for this shooting is unknown.

These idiots must be on one. Shooting an officer automatically puts them up for the death penalty. Who knows what this was for, or if it had anything to do with the Zimmerman verdict, but it's definitely idiocy at it's best.

The one they detained was Messycan, I hear from Radugo. But he was with 3 others who got away, so they could have been some kneegrows with him.
