Rancho Crackamonga Seeing a New Burglary Trend
THIS HAS BEEN GOING AROUND LATELY, THE POLICE EVEN PUT A NOTE ON MY DOOR SAYING THAT ABOUT 4 BLACK PEOPLE WERE GOING AROUND KICKING IN DOORS TO ROB YOU I GUESS A BUNCHA PPL ARE DOING IT NOW.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Bands of thieves from miles away have been descending on this city, smashing in windows, kicking in doors and running off with valuables.
Sheriff's detectives said the affluent city has become so popular for burglars that groups are competing with one another to see who can grab the most loot.
But San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies - who have nabbed 11 burglary suspects in the past two weeks - said it is a trend they're going to try to stop.
"We want the word to get out to criminals - don't come to Rancho because we're going to bite back," sheriff's Detective Phill Dupper said.
Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga station said burglaries have increased in their city as well as other foothill communities.
"We didn't see this stuff going on last year," Dupper said.
Police arrested three burglary suspects on Thursday morning in Ontario after they crashed a reported stolen vehicle into a planter and utility truck outside the Dave & Buster's eatery at the Ontario Mills mall.
Police said the trio had broken into two dry-cleaning businesses in Rancho Cucamonga hours before.
Parolee Matthew Joseph Forsberg, 27, Travis Allen Brown, 19, and a 17-year-old boy, all from Hesperia, were booked into jail on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, hit-and-run as well as burglary.

and Grove Avenue in Ontario.
The pickup's driver fled from police for several minutes. The pickup ran red lights as well as stop signs and, at one point, drove on the wrong side of the road on Haven Avenue, Ontario police Officer Dereck Anthony said.
The pickup lost control and crashed on the northeast end of Ontario Mills.
"The three guys in the truck bailed out and there was a short foot pursuit," Anthony said.
Officers found a deposit bag containing cash in the S-10, which had been reported stolen April 17 in Hesperia, Anthony said. The deposit bag was from Dollar Cleaners, 9950 E. Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga, where a window was found smashed in. Also found in the pickup were a pry bar, gloves and ski masks, authorities said.
Family Cleaners, 7208 Archibald Ave., was also burglarized late Wednesday, police said.
The trio are suspected in additional thefts, authorities said.
Two other burglary suspects were arrested earlier this week.
Kristina Martin, 27, and Ronald Rodarte, 29, both of La Verne, stole property from at least 10 victims, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Deputies based the number on the stolen property that they have found, which included at least $8,000 in property reportedly found in their vehicle.
Deputies responded about 2:30 a.m. Monday to the 10000 block of Hillside Road on a report of a suspicious vehicle and reckless driver.
Deputies said Rodarte ran from the vehicle when they arrived. Martin was arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and violating probation. She was booked into West Valley Detention Center.
Sheriff's detectives later searched Rodarte's home and arrested him.
Dupper said the Rancho Cucamonga sheriff's detectives division is "very active" and works hard to stay on top of crimes in the city.
But burglars are coming from such areas as Los Angeles and the High Desert to commit crimes in the Inland Valley, he said.
"They think it's far enough away. They think they can come in and get out," Dupper said.
Six people were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of home burglaries near Base Line Road.
Detectives contend they are part of a Moreno Valley gang that has been kicking in doors to burglarize homes.
"The overall idea is that Rancho is a nice, affluent community," Dupper said. "A lot of criminals know this is a community to go to where there are things to steal. They know they are going to get the most bang for their buck."
After talking to other law-enforcement agencies, Dupper said there is a trend among certain gangs that are committing multiple thefts in the area.
"We heard some different groups are in competition with each other - who's doing more, who's making more money," he said.
Dupper said to make sure Rancho Cucamonga is a safe community, the public must be on alert.
"We need the public to be our eyes and ears," he said. "They might think it's silly but if they see someone in their neighborhood who doesn't belong (let us know)."
