Hustla Squad Injunction

RIALTO - It's a young gang, but it seems intent on announcing its arrival and leaving its mark. That's why 171 cops banded together Friday to rustle its members out of bed while serving search warrants for "Operation Bust-A-$quad."
The 100-member Hustla Squad Clicc has been around since 2005 but in recent months has darkened its violent stain on the community with a rash of burglaries, armed robberies and attempted murders.

Rialto police responded by raiding 15 gang lairs on their home turf, which extends west of Cactus Avenue, east of Cedar Avenue, south of Foothill Boulevard and north of Rialto Avenue.

In what some gang officers deemed an intelligence gathering mission, authorities from more than a dozen agencies

Sixteen people, many of them juveniles, were detained in the 6:30 a.m. sweep. Seven were booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on a variety of drug, weapons and parole violations. All juveniles were cite released.

Police also seized five guns, including a sawed-off shotgun; two swords; a knife; bullets; stolen electronics; and a stash of marijuana and Ecstacy.

The weapons will be tested to see if they can be linked to any crimes committed in Rialto.


"Today's purpose was to go in there to gather gang intelligence and weapons used in the crimes they've committed," said Rialto police Lt. Joe Cirilo.

Officers from Montclair, Fontana, Pomona, Colton, San Bernardino, Ontario, Upland, Riverside and the San Bernardino and Riverside county sheriff's department also confiscated five computer hard drives, photographs, clothing and cell phones so police could further their knowledge of the gang.

"They're growing in numbers and we're trying to stop them before they get too big," said Det. Greg Marquez.

Prosecutors with the District Attorney's Office's gang injunction unit declined to comment on whether they are considering an injunction against the Hustlas.

If the city is successful in its mission, it would be the second gang injunction in Rialto.

In November, a civil court judge granted a permanent injunction against the 60-member South Side Rialto.

It was 6:26 a.m. when an ATF agent who works closely with Rialto police led his eight-member team down a rain-soaked sidewalk outside the Renaissance Village apartments at 311 N. Glenwood Ave.

The agents slowly turned a corner and lifted their guns before them while moving toward the apartment with a Bible propped in its front window.

Bang, bang, bang.

"Police! Search warrant. Demand entry. Apartment C," an agent yelled twice before others slammed a battering ram into the door.

Agents cuffed 19-year-old Marcus Goodlowe while their partners used flashlights to sift through the apartment for gang paraphernalia. Police said the residents had been stealing electricity from neighbors since they moved in.

No one was injured during the simultaneously served search warrant sweep, but officers had to shoot and kill a dog on North Idyllwild Drive.
