ONTARIO MAN ARRESTED IN UPLAND KILLING

ONTARIO - A 21-year-old man was arrested early Thursday for his suspected role in a fatal apartment complex shooting.

Upland and Ontario police officers arrested Daniel Vera at 12:35 a.m. near Bon View Avenue and Mission Boulevard after they pulled over a vehicle he was in, authorities said.

Detectives served a search warrant at Vera's residence in Ontario and found a handgun.

The arrest followed the killing of Manuel Vega, 29, of Upland his apartment at 6:09 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of South Stillman Avenue, Upland police Sgt. Cliff Mathews said.

The gunman fired at Vega and then fled.

Vega, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as a gang member, Mathews said.

Vega was scheduled to be sentenced for a drug possession case on Wednesday in West Valley Superior Court in Rancho Cucamonga. When Vega did not appear at the hearing, the court - apparently unaware that he had died - issued a warrant for his arrest.

I wish him all the best. I have a feeling it is who I think it is. Gave him a ride a few times when he was on foot. Hate to see youngsters going away so young. He was a cool kid taught him how to work out properly hah. Slept under him in county for a year or so. He's a cool kid.

Manuel was a good person, father, and someones son...It's been almost a year since he was found guilty....He had his day in court lost and still he hasn't been sentenced...now this bullshit conflicit panel sentence him and be done...Too much money has been spent already...Take your punishment for what you did.....
