Man shot on Wall Avenue in SB dies of injuries

SAN BERNARDINO - A man identified by police as a documented gang member died Tuesday, about six hours after he was shot while walking on Wall Avenue.

Coury Damarr Woods, 30, was pronounced dead at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton at 5:51 a.m., San Bernardino County coroner's officials said.

Police received a call at 11:38 p.m. Monday about a shooting in the 1400 block of North Wall Avenue. Police and paramedics found Woods wounded at the scene.

"He was walking on the street - unknown with who or how many people - when at least one shooter appeared, gunshots were fired and he sustained injuries," said San Bernardino police Lt. Dan Keil.

Paramedics took Woods to the hospital for treatment of what police said was a very serious gunshot wound.

Police have not established a motive in the case and no one was in custody.

"(Woods) is a documented gang member, but as far as motive, we're not sure yet," he said.

Residents living in the older homes and apartment buildings lining the street didn't know the victim or much about the shooting. But some said the incident has motivated them to move to a safer neighborhood.

One was Francisco Galaz, who has lived on Wall with his family about three years. Four or five gunshots woke him up, but he didn't go outside to see what had happened.

"I'm moving in the next month or so," he said. "It's not a good street."
