Police arrest a suspect who allegedly shot two people during an incident involving rival street gangs in Fontana


The Fontana Police Department has apprehended a suspect who was allegedly involved in a shooting incident in Fontana recently.

A suspect in a shooting incident involving two local street gangs has been arrested, according to the Fontana Police Department.

Isaac Belmontez, 24, of Fontana was arrested and charged with numerous felonies in connection with the incident, which resulted in two people being wounded.

The shooting took place on Dec. 2 at about 8 p.m. in the intersection of Mango and Valencia avenues in central Fontana and was the result of an ongoing feud between the gangs.

Two juveniles were struck by bullets and a third juvenile escaped injury. Both victims were transported to local hospitals, where one remains in critical condition after suffering two gunshot wounds to the stomach and one to the head. The other victim was shot in the right leg.


Gang officers assigned to the Fontana P.D. MET Unit conducted an investigation and were able to positively identify Belmontez as a suspect.

A search warrant was written for his residence and served on Dec. 9. During the search at the residence, a loaded firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered. Belmontez was booked at the Fontana P.D. Jail.
