Large bear is seen in residential area of Rancho Cucamonga
Published: Saturday, September 24, 2011 12:10 PM PDT
A large brown bear was seen prowling the northern part of Rancho Cucamonga recently, authorities said.
The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department received several calls this past week in regard to the bear. One of the callers said that the bear was going through the trash, and others simply reported seeing the bear in the residential area of the foothills off Beryl Street.
Rancho Cucamonga deputies were informed that citizens may have attempted to get close to the bear and take photographs with the animal. Rancho Cucamonga officers advised all residents to keep a safe distance from the bear and immediately report any sightings to local law enforcement.
Meanwhile, in the east end of San Bernardino County (the Forest Falls area), a bear entered a residence while the home was occupied by a young girl. The girl ran to another room, locked the door and notified her family. When deputies arrived, the bear left the residence and climbed a tree. No one was hurt by the bear, according to the Sheriff's Department.
