Lakers say they're 95% sure Phil Jackson will return as coach

The team plans on meeting with its former coach to see if he is ready to return for a third tour of duty.

If for whatever reason they don't get Phil back, I'm hoping D'Antoni gets it. Too bad nothing has come up about Sloan, because that would be even better.

sloans sytem is too complex to put in mid season. but after the eeting with phil, the lakers had a phone interview with d antoni. supposed to have one with mike dunleavy tomorrow. i read that someone called sloan and said he hadn't been contacted and doesnt expect to.

I think it's safe to say that Phil will get it, and I'm sure he's probably eager to see what he can do with a team of this caliber. Dunleavy sounds like a goo choice too.

This is the worst decision in lakers history. This has to do with money and not wanting to win a titled. They will not win a title under dantoni. You blow off the greatest coach of all time, 11 championships, 1st in number of wins, 1st in playoff wins & win percentage, vs a dumbass coach who ignores defense and hasnt made it to do finals not once in his career? Honestly though, I 'm kind of disappointed here. This could prove to be a great decision, or disastrous if D'Antoni can't get the team to adapt to his style of play, not to mention that the roster of this team doesn't necessarily compliment D'Antoni offense. Plus, D'Antoni has never been known for his defense....

i fuckin hate stephan a smith. loudmouth and opinionated isnt a good mix for me for a sports columnist.

but as to the d antoni hire, i think his system would be extremely more easy to integrate with this roster than the traingle offense. im hearing that the princeton offense is actually very similar to the triangle, if course with variations, but still similar. ive also read that they never even made pj an offer, and that they really wanted d antoni the whole time. the pj talks were a ploy to appease the masses. PJ's agent was supposedly on a flight form chicago to la to negotiate the contract when they hired d antoni.

Also, i cant disagree with everyones opinion on jim buss, he is no jerry buss, hes very quick on the trigger, and is self centered, i think the main reason jim buss didnt want pj was becasue it was said that pj wanted last say on basketball decisions, essentially, he wanted jim buss out the picture. no way jimmy buss was gonna do that.

i just watched on sportscenter that kinda proves the theory that pretending to offer pj the job was jsut for show, their saying that the lakers were callin the knicks and askin bout his fallout with melo and why d antoni quit, all this happened a few days BEFORE they fired mike brown. so when they were reporting mike browns firing, and sayin that they probably had someone in mind as a replacement, they were right, they had d antoni in mind already
