THE BIG SCREEN....COMIC BOOK, CARTOON MOVIES....
It seems comic oriented movies are becoming a big $ maker in Hollywood. From X-Men to the last airbender, which movies have been total flops, which ones are good, which ones need to be made?

I found the two Iron Man films entertaining and the Watchmen was pretty kick ass. Both Tim Burton's and Christopher Nolan's takes on Batman are good too.
But generally comic oriented films overall have been massive letdowns. The five comic films that pissed me off the most, is Ghost Rider and the two Fantastic Four films. Nobody casts NIC CAGE, bottomline especially as someone as kick ass as Johnny Blaze. Ghost Rider is one of my favorite comics back in the day.
And the two Fantastic Four movies simply for the fact that Doctor Doom is one of Marvel's greatest villains and they totally butchered him to death (the cartoon versions were much more authentic and accurate to the comic book Doom). He's actually one of my all-time favorite villains of the Marvel universe and was expecting a Doom that resembled the one I had always seen in the Spidey toons and in the comic books as a kid.
Ben Affleck's take on the Daredevil with Colin Farrell as Bullseye.
And last but not least Hellblazer starring KEANU REEVES as John Constantine an adult oriented DC comic title [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] .
As for comic book considerations how about:

I liked that Punisher movie. It wasn't as dark as I would expect a Punisher movie to be...but it was still good, i thought. The Punisher was always my favorite comic book character.

Powerman & ironfist are cool, cloak&dagger would be a good one as well as alpha-flight....doctor strange would be a kick ass wizard type movie....w/ dormammu and nightmare as enemies, the graphics for that would be tight.....a series worth making for tv the Kree/Skrull war....a Submariner movie I think would be cool....

Let's not forget these gems The Crow, Sin City, and 300. The Crow is amongst one of my favs, killer soundtrack.
Prince Namor would definitely be interesting, he started as a villain of sorts than became a hero. He is way better than DC's pussy Aqua-man.
They have an Avengers film in the works, I have always loved The Vision, Wonder Man (crappy name but great character), and Iron Man. For the villain I have always dug Ultron. If he doesn't appear in the Avengers movie I would love to see this dude in the next Iron Man if there is going to be another.

The only drawback to an 'Avengers' movie would be the characters chosen to represent them, like the x-men...cool flicks, but a little off detail.....300,cool flick a little off tho....scholars believe he died before the last of his men did, not standing alone in a hail of arrows as shown in the movie, I believe the last of his men died protecting his body from being taken and beheaded.....to no avail....

I agree on both accounts, but what is looking good is the director of The Avengers is Joss Whedon of SERENITY fame and slated for a 2012 release.

Whedon is also one of the writers of

Nick Fury vs. The Hydra, sweet....a deeper look into S.H.I.E.L.D, only touched on in the Iron-Man flicks, the 'ArmorWars' for Iron-Man should be the next title...imo ...did you ever come across the Marvel cards? I bought'em in the 90's in hopes the value would rise, did they?

Nope I never collected the cards but remember the huge comic book hype in the early 90s where it was predicted they would be a huge investment to the future and the publishers over produced and put out tons of special cover editions and shit. And for all that gave the books themselves zero value. That era almost bankrupted comic books permanently almost put everyone out of business. The comic book biz still hasn't recovered from the early 90s. But check up on some sites and see if their is value increase.
Boy is this gonna blow....

Your absolutely right about the books themselves taking a dive, a lot of book collectors bought into the marvel card hype,it seemed at the peak of baseball card mania.....if they're gonna screw up the spidey flicks, make it a spidey&sinister six movie....fuck it!!!

Absolutely, I don't know if you recall but there was a comic book craze in Corona and Riverside back in the early to mid 90s. It was literally a comic book shop wonderland. I loved it. But by the late 90s, all but a couple of them disappeared. Here is a wiki article (not the best authoratative source) on this phenomenom:
The rise and fall of the speculator market
By the late 1980s, important comic books, such as the first appearance of a classic character or first issue of a long-running series, were sold for thousands of dollars. Mainstream newspapers ran reports that comic books were good financial investments and soon collectors were buying massive amounts of comics they thought would be valuable in the future.
Publishers responded by manufacturing collectors’ items, such as trading cards, and “limited editions” of certain issues featuring a special or variant cover. The first issues of Marvel Comics' X-Force, X-Men, vol. 2 and Spider-Man became some of the first and most notorious examples of this trend. Another trend which emerged was foil-stamped covers. The first Marvel comic book with a foil-stamped cover was the second volume of the Silver Surfer, issue 50. A glow-in-the-dark cover for Ghost Rider, volume 2, issue 15 appeared as well. This led a market boom, where retail shops and publishers made huge profits and many companies, large and small, expanded their lines. Image Comics in particular became notorious for this, with many of its series debuting with alternate covers, wide use of embossed and foil covers and other "collectible" traits.
This trend was not confined to the books themselves, and many other pieces of merchandise, such as toys, particularly "chase" action figures (figures made in smaller runs than others in a particular line), trading cards, and other items, were also expected to appreciate in value. McFarlane Toys was notable for this, as it created many variations in its high-quality toys, most of which were main characters or occasional guest stars in the Spawn series.
But few, in the glut of new series, possessed lasting artistic quality and the items that were predicted to be valuable did not become so, often because of huge print runs that made them commonplace. A crash occurred, sales plummeted, hundreds of retail stores closed and many publishers downsized. In 1996, Marvel Comics, the largest company in the industry, declared bankruptcy (it has since rebounded). The industry has still not yet fully recovered from the speculator crash.
The crash also marked the relative downfall of the large franchises, inter-connected "families" of titles that lead to a glut of merchandising. While the big franchise titles still have a large amount of regular titles and merchandising attached to them, all of these things were notably scaled back after the crash. Several franchises have once again gained prominence, such as the X-Men, due in large part to the feature films X-Men and X2, and many DC heroes thanks to the success of various animated series' based on their characters, such as Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and Teen Titans.

Yeah, that was a terrible movie. What wasted talent of the likes of Joseph Fiennes and Sean Connery.

Re: THE BIG SCREEN....COMIC BOOK, CARTOON MOVIES....
wesiderider,
Not sure if you collect comics, but DC Comics is putting out two new Batman monthly series this month and next, Batman Inc penned by the legendary Grant Morrison on November 17, 2010 and Batman: The Dark Knight penned by a hot new writer named David Finch (not to be confused by the director of Fight Club & Se7en) on December 8, 2010.
The former is going to feature team-ups with old and new allies. The latter title I believe is going back to basics.

That's cool, since the big investment hype of the 90s, there's very few comic shops around anyways. But just letting ya know DC Comics is giving Batman the reboot with two new monthly titles. I haven't picked up the one that released earlier this week yet.

Fuckin Ryan Reynolds... I can't stand him. The Green Lantern is a kick ass character but it is getting the generic brown bag treatment especially with Ryan Reynolds in the title role.

Red was hilarious. John Malkovich was comedy! That film was pretty kick ass for a PG13 movie.
Here you go sir... THOR (2011) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Only question...who the fuck is Chris Hemsworth? Tho... Thor is not a character that requires great acting talent. BUT ... Thor is being directed by Mr Shakespeare ... Kenneth Branagh!!!!!
I can't believe Kenneth Branagh is directing a Marvel Comics superhero movie...

Did you ever go to The Compleat Paperbacker in La Puente? It was on Amar, next to the Hi-Brow. Man, they had boxes of all the old comics and would sell them for really cheap. I used to collect Tales Of Suspense (especially if it had the Red Skull in it), Strange Tales (Nick Fury vs. Hydra) and some issues of The Invaders. They would be like 25 cents each. They closed around 1994. They had a porn section, so my uncle would drive me up there & he'd check out the Hustlers and shit, hahaha.
