A 30-year-old Azusa man has died nearly a week after he and four other men were stabbed while trying to break up a fight at a Fontana party, say police and coroner's officials.
Everardo Elicerio-Salas was hospitalized soon after the 1:30 a.m. fracas Sept. 16 along the 10800 block of Redwood Avenue, south of Interstate 10 and about a block southeast of Slover and Cherry Avenues.
He died at 9:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton.
The stabbings happened soon after a fight erupted in the street outside a quinceañera party, a coming-of-age celebration held for Hispanic girls, said Sgt. Bob Morris.
“When the fight broke out, the band refused to play anymore … until (the fight) was dealt with,” Morris said. “So several of the males went out into the street to try to get the guys who were fighting to stop … so the party could continue.
“When they did that, they were attacked by at least one male suspect.”
Three of the victims were treated and released at a hospital soon after the incident. The fourth victim declined to medical treatment.
No arrests have been made.

Fontana police say 21-year-old Christian Cortez of Azusa was arrested last Friday on suspicion of murder.

Police say officers were called to a reported street fight on Sept. 16. They found five men in their late 20s to early 30s who had been stabbed outside a home where a party was being held.

Police say several men from the party were stabbed when they tried to break up a fight outside the home.

The party was a quinceanera (Kin-see-uh-NARE'-uh), a Latin American celebration of a girl's 15th birthday.
