whats up on the ES?
anie Sykes hadn't seen her husband, Howard Edward Sykes III, in about a year when he pulled his car into the driveway of his sister's home early Monday.
The 43-year-old San Bernardino woman, who was visiting friends nearby, said she had hoped to eventually reunite with the man.
But before she had a chance to approach him, someone else did.
"It happened so quick," she said. "He pulled up, then it was like 'pop, pop, pop.'"
Two men who were standing in the driveway walked up to the man and opened fire.
Howard Syke's green Ford Thunderbird rolled backward into a palm tree at the end of the driveway.
"I was a couple feet from it," Jeanie Sykes said.
San Bernardino police received a call at 1:50 a.m. about the shooting in the 1100 block of North D Street and found Sykes still sitting in the vehicle.
Paramedics took him to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:35 a.m., San Bernardino County coroner's officials said.
Police have not determined a motive in the killing and there have been no arrests.
"We're not getting a whole lot of information," said San Bernardino police Sgt. Gary Robertson. "We don't know why it happened."
While waiting for her son to pick her up hours later,Sykes sat with a cigarette in one hand, still shaken from the incident and the loss of her husband. She didn't specify what led to her separation, just that there were problems in their lives.
But she said that the San Bernardino High School graduate, who was working in a warehouse job, wasn't involved in gangs and didn't have enemies. She suspects the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
"He was a good person. I just can't believe it," she said.

Re: whats up on the ES?
No full fledged wars going on as far as I know, just random violence.......the usual. It sounds like this dude was setup, though. The story sounds odd.

Re: whats up on the ES?
Are you talking about the incident that happen in the Waterman Gardens? They had some dudes come through DH and shoot up some houses from the car, this happened twice, but they never hit anybody. And then there was another incident/shootout off of Baseline after that.
But it seems like they took the loss and nothing really happened after that. I do know that there's tension and fighting on sight, and with the Projects too. I don't know what might going on over in that area now though, it's been a minute since I've had any updates.

Re: whats up on the ES?
It's crazy, but a lot of it was based on rumors and hearsay and nothing really concrete. Word on the street was that a dude from Projects killed the PPHG in the WG's, but a DH was involved and things took off from there. To be honest, I can't call it, it could have been either, but Projects/DH have never been cool with PPHG. There's always tension and fighting among them. PPHG doesn't like anybody on the west side now that I've come to think of it, especially the Macons and Projects.
