Sources: Dodgers make Manny new offer

The Dodgers made free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez a new offer on Monday — one year, $25 million, according to major-league sources.
MLB Hot Stove
Jake Peavy Ken Rosenthal and our MLB crew have you covered. Check out all the news and notes from the hot stove.

The offer was made during a face-to-face meeting between Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti and Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras.

Free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira will average $22.5 million per season in his new eight-year, $180 million contract with the Yankees.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez averages $27.5 million in his 10-year, $275 million deal with the Yankees, and Boras has been telling the Dodgers that Ramirez wants to be paid as much or more than A-Rod on an annual basis.

Boras did not respond immediately to the Dodgers' offer, sources said, telling Colletti that he would get back to him in a few days.

The offer is the Dodgers' third of the offseason to Ramirez.

Shortly after the season ended, they offered him a two-year, $45 million contract with an option for a third year that could have raised the total value of the package to $60 million.

The Giants are the only team besides the Dodgers with known interest in Ramirez, but team officials repeatedly have said that they would sign him only if the price was right.

THE DODGERS.....YOUR SOURCE FOR ALL THE BLUE CREW NEWS.... Empty Report: Manny turns down $25M from Dodgers

Post  Drunky McThuggerton Tue Feb 03, 2009 6:07 pm

So much for that.

Free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez has turned down the Dodgers' latest offer, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The one-year, $25 million proposal was made during a face-to-face meeting Sunday night between Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti and Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras.

Despite the rejection, Colletti says that negotiations are not dead.

"We still have an interest in signing Manny," Colletti said, according to the Times. "These situations can change in an instant and anybody can change them."

Ramirez, 36, is seeking a four- or five-year contract, sources say. The Dodgers offered him a higher annual salary than any free agent has received this offseason.

Free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira will average $22.5 million per season in his new eight-year, $180 million contract with the Yankees.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez averages $27.5 million in his 10-year, $275 million deal with the Yankees, and Boras has been telling the Dodgers that Ramirez wants to paid as much or more than A-Rod on an annual basis.

The offer was the Dodgers' third of the off-season to Ramirez.

Shortly after the season ended, they offered him a two-year, $45 million contract with an option for a third year that could have raised the total value to $60 million.

They later offered him salary arbitration, but Ramirez rejected the chance to earn in the $25 million range on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract. The Dodgers' latest offer is guaranteed.

The Giants are the only team besides the Dodgers with known interest in Ramirez, but Giants officials repeatedly have said that they would sign him only if the price was right.

THE DODGERS.....YOUR SOURCE FOR ALL THE BLUE CREW NEWS.... Empty Sources: Dodgers, Manny agree at 2 years, $45M

Post  Drunky McThuggerton Wed Mar 04, 2009 6:20 pm

fuck man!! its about time...i was startin to get made at manny for rejecting all these offers man...

by Ken Rosenthal

Manny Ramirez is a Dodger once again.

Ramirez on Wednesday agreed to a two-year, $45 million contract to return to Los Angeles, according to major-league sources. The deal will be finalized after Ramirez passes his physical.

Ramirez gets $25 million this year and has until November to decide whether to void the second season, which calls for a $20 million salary, according to The Associated Press. The deal includes a full no-trade provision, and some of the salary will be deferred.

By late Tuesday evening, the two sides had moved closer to an agreement, disagreeing only about the amount of deferred payments in the Dodgers' proposal.

The Dodgers' offer had a present-day value of approximately $42 million. Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, made a counter-proposal with a present-day value of $43.5 million.

Dodgers owner Frank McCourt expressed frustration with Boras after the team agreed to Ramirez's request for the option to become a free agent after the first season of the two-year deal.

Team to beat?
Manny Ramirez Video: With Manny back in L.A., are the Dodgers now a lock to repeat as NL West champs? Kevin Kennedy breaks it down.

McCourt reportedly considered making Ramirez a series of reduced offers that reflected the changing market, but his anger apparently subsided Tuesday, with the two sides resuming their negotiations.

The return of Ramirez makes the Dodgers the favorite in the National League West, a division they won last season after acquiring Ramirez from the Red Sox on July 31.

The Dodgers averaged 4.17 runs per game through that date and 4.63 runs per game after that, reaching the National League Championship Series, where they lost to the Phillies, four games to one.

Ramirez, who turns 37 on May 30, batted .396 for the Dodgers with a .489 on-base percentage, 17 home runs and 53 RBIs in 53 games. He is a .314 lifetime hitter who has hit 527 career home runs.

THE DODGERS.....YOUR SOURCE FOR ALL THE BLUE CREW NEWS.... Empty Dodgers now have strong lineup

Post  Drunky McThuggerton Wed Mar 04, 2009 6:41 pm

from espn.com

Wednesday, March 4, 2009 | Feedback | Print Entry

With the big guy finally in the fold, Jon Weisman looks at the lineup and likes what he sees:

Torre's 2009 Dodgers starting lineup will be different, but mine would alternate left- and right-handed hitters. Either way, it's pleasing.

(S) Rafael Furcal, SS
(R) Russell Martin, C
(L) Andre Ethier, RF
(R) Manny Ramirez, LF
(L) James Loney, 1B
(R) Matt Kemp, CF
(S) Orlando Hudson, 2B
(R) Casey Blake, 3B

Gosh, that's an impressive lineup. The No. 6 hitter is going to hit 20 homers and steal 30 bases this season. The No. 7 hitter is a Gold Glove second baseman who's been a better-than-average National League hitter in each of the past three seasons. And the No. 8 hitter is a pretty solid bet for 20 home runs.

Granted, as Weisman notes, this won't be Torre's lineup, precisely. But the take-home message is that it really doesn't matter where everyone hits. All of them can hit, and you're going to score just about as many runs whether you've got Blake leading off and Furcal batting eighth as the other way around. This is the sort of lineup, with no real breaks for the enemy pitcher until the ninth spot, that most teams may only dream about.

THE DODGERS.....YOUR SOURCE FOR ALL THE BLUE CREW NEWS.... Empty Dodgers reclaim top spot, while Toronto comes back to earth

Post  Drunky McThuggerton Fri May 22, 2009 12:23 am

The Dodgers continue to dominate the National League and another strong week has them back on top of the Power Rankings. The Blue Jays have not fared well against their chief competition in the AL East, dropping four of five games in the past two weeks to the Yankees and Red Sox, yet still hold a slim lead in the division. Interleague play makes its season debut this week, which is sure to shuffle the rankings for next week.

MLB Power Rankings
1 Los Angeles Dodgers
Last Week: 3

Los Angeles Dodgers
After dropping three of their first four games following Manny Ramirez's suspension, the Dodgers have now won seven of eight to reclaim the top spot in the rankings. They lead the National League in runs scored and the majors in fewest runs allowed. Mannywood, the promotion related to a certain dreadlocked, suspended left fielder, was a bust, but the Dodgers aren't giving up that easily at drawing new fans. This week they're debuting a radio broadcast aimed at increasing their female fan base. Part of the goal will be to instruct their listeners on things going on in the game that fans might take for granted. For instance, you do in fact have to touch all the bases to score a run, a small detail that helped the Dodgers sweep the Mets this week. Now you know, Ryan Church.

2 Toronto Blue Jays
Last Week: 1

Toronto Blue Jays
"The one thing we have is pitching depth," says Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi. "The one thing we don't have is pitching experience." Case in point: The Jays have already used nine starting pitchers this season, but of the five members of their current rotation, two of them (Robert Ray and Brett Cecil) made their big league debuts this season and two others (Brian Tallet and Scott Richmond) had combined for 11 career starts entering the year. It doesn't hurt to have Roy Halladay get off to another Cy Young-worthy start, with an 8-1 record and 2.78 ERA.

3 Milwaukee Brewers
Last Week: 5

Milwaukee Brewers
The hottest team in the National League has now won 21 of its past 27 games and surged into first place in the National League Central. The only way to cool off the Brewers may be to throw them into the new "splash zone" debuting at Miller Park on Monday. That will be the new landing spot at the bottom of the slide of beloved mascot Bernie Brewer after each Brewers home run. It's no beer mug, but it will have to do.

4 Texas Rangers
Last Week: 11

Texas Rangers
A since-broken seven-game winning streak powered the Rangers to the top of the AL West. The offense remains potent and the pitching has improved, but defense has been the biggest key for the Rangers' turnaround. After finishing dead last in the majors in defensive efficiency a year ago, Texas is second in the American League this year.

5 Boston Red Sox
Last Week: 2

Boston Red Sox
The Sox took the first two games of their Fenway series against the first-place Blue Jays (and are now tied with the Jays in the loss column), got Kevin Youkilis and Daisuke Matsuzaka back from the disabled list and even got the first home run of the year from David Ortiz. Lost in all that was Jacoby Ellsbury tying a major league outfielder record with 12 putouts in a nine-inning game on Wednesday night, causing Red Sox manager Terry Francona to joke, "It's a good thing he got his stretching in."

6 New York Yankees
Last Week: 16

New York Yankees
After Johnny Damon beat the Twins on Sunday with a walk-off home run in extra innings, he reclaimed the fake championship belt that had originally been given to him by teammate A.J. Burnett and that is passed around the clubhouse to the MVP of each Yankees win. At the time, Alex Rodriguez said, "He owns it. I hope I get it back this week sometime." No problem there. A-Rod has been the Yankees' hottest hitter, homering in four straight games to fuel an eight-game winning streak that has the given the Yanks the look of a genuine title contender for the first time this season.

7 Philadelphia Phillies
Last Week: 10

Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies starters have the worst ERA (6.24) in the major leagues and closer Brad Lidge has a 7.85 ERA, yet somehow they remain in first place. Getting to play the Nationals four straight times -- the Phillies swept the Nats over the weekend -- probably helps, but they can't keep pitching like this and contend for long. Can they?

8 Detroit Tigers
Last Week: 7

Detroit Tigers
After almost a year-and-a-half, and after cashing in about a third of the $29 million contract he signed before the 2008 season, Dontrelle Willis finally got the first win of his Detroit Tigers career on Tuesday night. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing one hit and no runs for his first win since September 25, 2007, when he beat the Cubs while still a member of the Florida Marlins. With Justin Verlander throwing bullets (five straight starts of at least eight K's), the Tigers' rotation suddenly looks like the hands-down choice for best in the AL Central.

9 St. Louis Cardinals
Last Week: 4

St. Louis Cardinals
Chris Carpenter returned from the disabled list on Wednesday night and threw five shutout innings in a win over the Cubs. Carpenter has yet to allow a run this year in three starts and his return has helped restore some balance to a struggling Cardinals rotation that had earned just two wins in the past two weeks.

10 New York Mets
Last Week: 6

New York Mets
Not a good week for the Mets. They went 3-4 on a West Coast trip, including a sweep to the Dodgers. They lost a game in which they committed five errors and cost themselves a run when Ryan Church missed third base scoring what would have been the go-ahead run in extra innings. They put Carlos Delgado on the disabled list and he could be out for two-and-a-half months. But at least none of them got their arm caught in a toilet, like one of their fans did last week. While trying to retrieve a tooth. A gold tooth. That she didn't get back. Stay classy, Mets fans.

i only did the top ten cuhz its too much to post

THE DODGERS.....YOUR SOURCE FOR ALL THE BLUE CREW NEWS.... Empty Source: Manny may sue doctor

Post  Drunky McThuggerton Fri May 22, 2009 12:26 am

Manny Ramirez's strategy for how he'll address the media appears to be taking shape, as sources in his camp are indicating that he'll apologize for violating baseball's drug policy but won't detail the events that led to him being suspended for 50 games. One source said that Ramirez might cite legal reasons for remaining silent on the matter, noting the possibility of suing the doctor who prescribed him HCG, a female fertility drug that is on the baseball's list of banned substances.
