Re: World Cup....
I heard when IRAQ lost in the world cup a few years back, Saddam's son, as head of the IRAQI Olympics council, made everyone on the team kick a soccer ball made of pure concrete... talk about toe jam...

Re: World Cup....
I can't see where Detroit fits in, but you're right in that soccer fans, most but not all, are ready to riot over a game....an exhibition game at that.....Honduras and El Salvador went to war in 1969 over a soccer game, social issues played a key role too, but still war....thats like RAIDERS invading CHARGERS or some shit like that.....dCoka wrote:when you see soccer on tv that shit is in spanish thats why i say paisa shit fuckk all dat. dumbass sport who people go to war ova if the chivas lose or if manchester united loses. get da fuck outta here thats like detroit starting a war cuz the lions can only win 3 games

Re: World Cup....
i said detroit because thats a good area when it comes to economy issues. i just dont see the point in having a war over a sport. im a dedicated fan to basketball and football. but id never war someone if they lost.

Re: World Cup....
Its not the same thing though. In soccer(football lol) alot of the time you have ethnic, national, or religious pride invested in certain teams. A good example is where jinky is from in glasgow. He can probably explain it better than I, but the Celtic vs Rangers rivalry is not just a sports rivalry its a sectarian religous rivalry tied to the conflict in Northern Ireland and strife between Protestants and Catholics. Janky come school us.

Re: World Cup....
Huero pretty much summed it up, in a nutshell we all immgrated from Ireland way back when Protestants alligned themselves with Rangers, Catholics with Celtic...wesiderider wrote:^ seriously though I wanna know more about that....that's very interesting.....

Re: World Cup....
lol.. choka said it ~> futbol is boring .. like an old hen quackin in the yard or that wino at the park
yet i beg to disagree.. futbol is not only a personal aptitude game, where a player gets down with the skills, but also a strategy game, just like chess,
move ~> your pieces in a coordinated attack
when it comes to futbol "internacional" like the one that wesiderider mentioned, where a bronca started out cause of a game.. well, those type right there carry a lot more meaning than what the average viewer is aware of.. it's like per say, if your hood goes down to your next door neighbor and gets disrespected.. so what'd you gonna do? you're gonna throw down.. you're gonna throw chingadazos and bottles tambien, que no? That's how it is
so you see, when it comes down to "nations" facing off, it takes on a whole lot wider meaning.. for it is in the field of play that a small nation can go toe to toe with a big country and be even steven, know what i mean? it is no longer who gots the bigger guns, or whos got the numbers, because its eleven versus eleven.. that's a "national pride" right there.. that's your homeboys stepping out onto the street and getting down
^ ^ so whether it be scotland versus england
or mexico versus estamos undidos
the old world versus the new
brazil versus germany
that certain pride for your own ~> jumps in
it jumps in into the field
like, ~> Q-VO CABRONES! AQUI ESTAMOS Y AQUI PARAMOS!
that's the "spirit" which goes into an international "soccer" game
so as you can maybe understand.. "world cup" futbol takes on a whole nother level than the average game on tv
as to it being boring? well, that's just a matter of "scoring"
you see, the amerikkan public is duped into "high scoring"
2s, 3s, 6s, 7s, just add up and rack up the points.. 102 vs 98.. "YEAH!"
there's no satisfaction in a low number.. things gotta be big in order to "satisfy"
things can't be "simplicity at its best" because that's too boring to A hyped up amerikkan public
an amerikkan public that wants to see a BIG victory, a HUGE victory.. wants to "kick ass"
..
I used to play beisbol back in the day when I was growing up in Dog Town
we used to go play in the park at the back of the projects with the county jail overlooking our field
used to jump over the field when someone hit one over the barbed wire fence..
then whoever was the outfielder would have to go get the ball
didn't matter if there was a train on the tracks moving fast
outfielder simply had to jump on the train and jump over to the other side and get the ball
and on dodger nites.. there we went, hiked up to chavez ravine
i gave up on beisbol in later years
street football took over in the high school era of my years
a million stories happened during those years
then later on i picked on soccer
street and park soccer that is
like a typical paisa ( lol )
only it wasn't paisa
it was neighborhood boys futbol
the boys from san pedro and park western were my team
i was their goalie
and you could not that easily score on my goalpost
i would knock you silly if you even came close to trying
we would play anyone and just about anywhere
wilmas, florencia, longo, los, anyone but Comptone
Comtone I would not go.. too many sour losers out there
always turn into a battle at some point in the game
futbol takes on a life of its own..
whether it be street wise, or "Nationally"

Re: World Cup....
HERE, HERE.....well said wolfman....I got a better understanding of the sport now...baseball and hockey are low scoring games too...just as soccer you need patience to play a whole game to eek out a 1-0 victory...

Nah I'm fuckin, in my city it goes back to your religous preference again, the Protestants will support England, the otherside wont, simple as that, I support neither side so I just want a good game.
