5 ONTARIO TEENS GO ON CRIME SPREE
ONTARIO - The suspects in a four-city crime spree that ended this morning were all Ontario teenagers, police said.
Ontario police arrested Daniel Bernal and Jose Estrella, both 18, and three 16-year-old boys, said Ontario police Officer Bill Russell.
Police said the group committed two robberies in Ontario before they were captured in the 1200 block of South Palmetto Avenue at 12:45 a.m.
The teens are also suspected in robberies in Upland, Montclair and Rancho Cucamonga between late Thursday and early Friday, police said.
Officers spotted their green Ford Explorer near the corner of Mission Boulevard and Mountain Avenue after the group swept through the other cities, robbing at least two people and pistol-whipping both.
The suspects led Ontario police on a car chase, during which officers had to use the Pursuit Intervention Technique, a move where officers use their squad car to bump another vehicle to disable its brakes and cause it to stop.
The driver and three other teens were captured by police immediately. The fifth ran into a nearby apartment complex and was bit by an Ontario police dog. He and the driver were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Ontario police said they fired shots while taking the robbers into custody, but no one was struck by the bullets.
Police found evidence linking the suspects to the robberies in the vehicle.
Bernal and Estrella were booked into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly

weapon and attempted homicide. Police booked the younger teens into West Valley Juvenile Hall.
Anyone with information may call Ontario police, (909) 986-6711 or Detective R. Marquez, (909) 395-2777.

One man was shot and two other men were beaten with handguns during a four-city robbery spree by two men and three boys that ended with police gunfire early Friday in Ontario, authorities said.
The shooting victim sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The five robbers, all from Ontario, masked their faces with bandannas that were covered with images of black skulls, authorities said.
The violence began at 11:37 p.m. Thursday in Upland. A victim was pistol whipped and robbed of cash and a cell phone on Benson Avenue north of Seventh Street, Upland police said.
The robbers then jumped into a green Ford Explorer and fled to Rancho Cucamonga, where the robbery victim was shot.
Sheriff's Detective Matthew Griffith said robbers forced three people out of a car and took a wallet and cell phone about midnight in the 8100 block of Lucite Avenue.
One of the men in the car became confrontational and was shot, Griffith said.
The robbers next headed to Montclair, where they approached a man in a parking lot at Saratoga Park in the 10300 block of Vernon Avenue, said Montclair police Sgt. Robert Avels.
"When the suspect approached victim, he told him to not do anything stupid," Avels said.
The victim's girlfriend, who was asleep in a car, awoke and pulled her boyfriend back inside. He bumped into the vehicle's horn, causing it to beep.
"The suspect became upset and struck the

victim in the head with the butt of the handgun, causing the gun to fire a single round," Avels said.
No one was hit by the bullet, authorities said.
The robbers fled to Ontario.
After a radio call was issued about the incidents, a number of officers flooded the area.
Ontario police found the Explorer near Mission Boulevard and Mountain Avenue.
Shots were fired at the scene of the arrests by two veteran police officers, according to police. The shots were fired while police were taking four of the suspects into custody.
No injuries were reported.
One of the suspects ran but was finally taken into custody with the assistance of a police dog.
"The same suspects are believed to be involved in all the robberies," Avels said.
Authorities said Daniel Bernal and Jose Estrella, both 18, were arrested and booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. The other three suspects were booked into West Valley Juvenile Hall.
