I have no problem with your post other than calling me a college boy... I am 40, and trying to escape working for a small newspaper. I am doing a very, very favorable project on a topic most non-g folks don't view as such. It's a free country, you can do and say... And feel, how you want.
Worseloks, you strike me as a very divisive soul, much UNLIKE most of the very good folks who have helped me with this project. You have the right to wade in muck, but I recommend you strive for more in life, but that is for you to sort out... And I imagine you don't want advice from some dumb white college kid.

Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
westmont aint never really been anything, never heard of it, as a crew anyways, if your staying in the pomona area might as well got to the rest of em, cherryville, wsp, nsp...cherryville is another one of the "old varrio" types, considering i think both cvp and o st both broke off 12 st.Desdave wrote:He had a lot to say. Re: that segment of the mission corridor, he says it isn't any particular varrio, but that there are bangers from all over the valley living in there, including a 18th St vet. He claimed it to be as rough as Fontana and Muscoy though.
His belief is that the Surenos were more quiet in the past year due to that bust last year with OVS and some raid on the P 12, that I dont remember hearing about. Nice cop, older, been around. Says the pRison gangs r has the streets on some kind of " keep quiet" edict, that I Also had never read.
When I asked him the dominate g crew in the area he said OVS.
Anyone know the crew and boundaries of Westmont Pomona.

dave dont tell me about striving for more, i moved out the i.e with my lady because im striving for more. im out here in northern california trying to distance myself from the teptations and everything that i was attatched to in the IxE. im not just some kid that thinks about gangs all day, sure it was part of my everyday life but im in my late 20's trying to settle down raise a few rascals . but when i think of a "40" year old man who is in college, running around asking vatos and cops about gang neighborhoods, it seems kind of funny to me. even alonso from streetgangs is funny to me.

Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
I hold 2 bachelor degrees (one from uCLA and the other from UCR, in journalism and Public Administration). This will be my last degree, a masters... That's why I am 40. I went back to improve my life. I am hoping to become a foreign correspondent, and took on this project in the hopes someone says "he has been in rough places and succeeded... let's send him to (insert war zone here)"
I have made all attempts to show maximum respect to all involved by redacting names and providing copies of my notes to be edited by the interviewees, which is is unheard of. If you feel slighted, I humbly apologize. As for the removal of your post, that would likely have occurrd with the webmaster and not myself.
I assure you that my thesis project will be very favorable to not only Surenos, but Chicanos in general. Your last post was very articulate, and I am glad to hear you are improving things in your eyes, and honestly thought most Surenos would not approve of this project, but once they know it's not a slam piece, so far they have embraced it.
Good luck!
Good luck to you in your endeavors.

people always say shit like that. personally i have a problem wiht it wen the story portrays us in a negative light, without asking about the root problems of it, when they say the way we are is just becasue bad parenting or stupid reasons. i hope someday people can take a more in depth look at our situations, not just chicanos, but all races that came up in the same struggle. ya they got the stereotypical movies like blood in and blood out and american me, the sad thing is that thats how people view us. maybe someday they can make a report, a movie, a thesis, or whatever that shows that were just normal people put in bad situations and making the best we can out of it. hopefully dave hear can shed some light, but i would judge him too harshly..yet.
Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
Upon consult with my prof. He suggested that I narrow my scope to one or two of the main or bigger crews in the valley. I will likely focus on P12 and one other varrio to be determined. I say P12 because so far, that is where I received actual info from an insider. My "day job" has allowed me to cover the pomona area extensively so I have some decent contacts there. My office is very close to ESO and NSO but I would prefer an OVS interview since it is a very defined varrio with as much history as one could imagine. But so far I have been unable to get anything "inside" other than a few interviews with an OPD officer I know (retired).
Don't trip, I appreciate your kind words and support and it's shit like that that keeps me plugging along. My thesis will likely be shared with you guys here online, and hopefully passed along to your homies that are not reading this board. Again, I think you will all enjoy it. I will likely be complete, hopefully, by late august.

Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
My research is complete, at least the field portion of it. Thanks for the help and kind words. Now the shitty part, putting it all together. I still welcome anyone who feels they have something to contribute. And again, thanks a million to all those who have helped.
...I have some good pics of hoods and hit ups, but can't figure out how to post em here. They will be in my thesis though. You guys all are awesome from what I can tell
Thanks again, and be safe!

I am as legit as can be. I Will share all I can. I have an interview with a SMASH detective early next week and will be visiting the CA Rehabilitation Center (a prison in Norco) where I will be meeting with several inmates. What I really need is a few more interviews with active guys... No offense to the "reformed" or incarcerated brothers but their view isn't true to what is on the streets right now.
I think for me to really understand the struggle, I have to meet with the strugglers. What I really wish is that I would have talked to the P12 vet for longer but my perception at the time was that I should only ask a few questions. I mean, I am pretty sure I already know what smash guy has to say: they are all knuckle head cold blooded killers. But I am more interested in the why than the what... You know what I mean. I am hopeful my inmate interviews will shed some lite on the subject no one on the streets wants to (or dares to) discuss.
I will keep you all posted on my progress when I have some.

Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
Just an update to my research: per many gOod sources in the Ontario area, NSO Calaveras St and ESO 4th Street are no longer active, and that OVS has taken over those turfs noted on the map.
I am sure that will be disputed, but this info comes from sources both in the hoods and from those who patrol them.
OVS should really just be Varrio Onterio at this point, no? Per interviews with OVS members as well as PD, it is seen that OVS/BA control all Hispanic gang activity in Ontario.
Comments?

Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
Should be complete in sept or oct to be presented in nov.
It isn't that good so far, and I am pondering switching up if I wasn't so deep.

Are you studying 2 varrios or 30?
Re: 30 varrios in 30 days
So far, it will overview all of the west end/ IE varrios, but it will have a focus on P12 and OVS/BA. Other varrios had a chance to step up, guys from those two crews helped out a bit... But one of them is now in the system again.
