More than four dozen people with alleged ties to a violent Ontario street gang are behind bars facing federal charges, and eight others are being sought, prosecutors said today.

The 27 suspects rounded up today join 25 defendants already in custody in the investigation of the Black Angels, a 450-member Latino street gang that was formed in Ontario more than 50 years ago and claims the entire San Bernardino County city as its turf, according to U.S. Attorney's Office
spokesman Thom Mrozek.

Today's arrests were the result of two indictments returned by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles in recent weeks. The main indictment names 50 defendants, three dozen of whom are charged under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organizations Act, Mrozek said.

In addition to the RICO charges, the indictment alleges violent crimes in aid of racketeering, conspiracies to distribute heroin and methamphetamine and firearms violations.

A second indictment charges another 10 defendants with narcotics trafficking violations.

The lead defendant in the racketeering case is Armando "Mando'' Barajas, a 46-year-old suspected Mexican Mafia member who lives in Pomona and allegedly controls the gang's activities, including narcotics distribution, Mrozek said. He was arrested today, the spokesman said.

The Black Angels membership also includes those connected to two subgroups — Ontario Varrio Sur and Junior Black Angels, Mrozek said. The indictment alleges that Black Angels leaders recruited and initiated juveniles to join the gang by visiting high schools in search of potential members.

The Black Angels gang is allegedly aligned with the Mexican Mafia, and there are at least four Mexican Mafia members in the gang, according to the indictment.

Along with the distribution of narcotics, leaders of the gang extorted "taxes'' from local drug dealers in exchange for permission to operate in gang-regulated areas, the indictment alleges.

The group's drug trafficking activities also include smuggling narcotics into prisons for the benefit of incarcerated Mexican Mafia and Black Angels members, according to prosecutors.

The RICO conspiracy count in the indictment alleges a series of specific overt acts, including the possession of one pound of methamphetamine; transporting narcotics from Mexico into the United States; shooting at police during a high-speed chase; an armed robbery of a convenience store; and the murder of a Black Angels member who ran afoul of the gang, Mrozek said.

yea.different homies got different views,but i respect that.but like u its not like the old times its the new times.from what i've seen the ie,sgv,sd just hold their varrio/hood down and keep their ground.most of the l.a. varrios/hoods expand to different areas of cali just to get their name out their or expand to closer spots like sd or ie so they can recurit more.when its comes down to it,its mainly about money now days.of course have respect and love for ur hood but it is what it is.well atleast in my eyes.

To me, it seems like the farer gangs spread out from the main area, the more credibility they lose. Shit, we got Cali gangs in Wisconsin and New Hamshire now. Keep the trucha.

The same go's for black gangs in Los Angeles. If you have an enterprize or whatever and want to expand it, you go to different regions. So of course, drugs and money are the only reasons a gang would do this. 18 and MS are a household name, literally. They have created a brand for themselves with a HUGE push from media. And really, I don't care what turf you're from there are members of that turf that travel state lines all the time and set up shop. The only reason -in my oppinion- there are los gangs in other states and around the world is because Los Angeles gang culture at one time was so glorified. If Colors would of been based in IE then you'd have DHB's and PJ's all over the world.

yeah from what i see sgv and IE hold down their own neighborhoods and we tend to be more traditional opposed to wut the new times are doing or wut the thing to do is u know that way u maintain ur respect and your pride in the varrio cuz if ur frm a hood thats expanded everywhere to the point u dont even know who other members are or where else they are what's the pride in that? thats why alot of neighborhoods have lost respect these kids are fucking everything up there's very few that can say 'hey i'm doing something for my varrio' all it is now is me me me these kids wanna get recognized for their own they wanna put their name out there rather than keep a good name for their varrio and they think that being skanless is being down when in reality having respect and being down for ur shit will give u a better kind of respect but like u said it is wut it is this is new times now

i know for a fact not all the foos from south onterio or south fontana or pomona 12th or even monte flores all know each other there to big.alot of younger kats got the game fucked up.showing respect to anyone including ur enemies will give u way more respect back.u cant be fighting 24/7 shits wastful but other than that it is what it is

I see exactly what you mean about how some thing's are just hard to let go, like homies who have passed. I know I hold a mean grudge because my closest homeboy is gone, and no matter how much get back there is, there's still no real satisfaction, just temporary. Could go home with a smile, but days, weeks, months, years laters, the feeling is back to the same. Things like that stays engraved in the brain and memories of it resurface just about everyday, and throughout the day. At least for me it does. But I understand whatcha mean about how folks in the neighborhood might get worried if absolutely nothing has been going on, since it's out of the ordinary and could be a sign that something fishy is going on.

I find Casa Blanca abit of an enigma, the two traditional gangs are divided by a single moderately busy street and the beef is a family feud like the Hatfields and McCoys that identifies the division in some hoods. Family connections.
