SAN BERNARDINO: Student stabbed in park near campus
A senior at San Gorgonio High School in San Bernardino was attacked by two men late Tuesday morning, May 8, suffering a stab wound that proved to be non-life-threatening.
The student, who was not identified, left the campus around 11:15 a.m. for lunch, said Linda Bardere, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino City Unified School District.
As he walked through Speicher Memorial Park just east of the campus, two men attacked him, inflicting one stab wound, Bardere said. She did not know where he was stabbed but said that he was expected to recover.
The student immediately returned to the campus, where he received medical aid and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, she said.
School district police responded to the campus in the 2200 block of Pacific Street and were still trying to determine what kind of weapon was used in the attack, Bardere said. No suspects were in custody.
The campus was not locked down after the stabbing, but extra school district police arrived to monitor dismissal of students at the end of the day.
Officers remained on campus late in the afternoon, investigating the incident.
This is the third act of violence near a San Bernardino district high-school campus within the year, Bardere said. Last May, a student was stabbed near Arroyo Valley High School on the city’s Westside, and in late February, a former Arroyo Valley student was shot to death about a block from the campus.
