JURUPA VALLEY: Deputy fatally shoots attempted robbery suspect

A deputy sheriff fatally shot a Jurupa Valley attempted robbery suspect who said he had a gun and threatened to open fire on the officer, say Riverside County sheriff's officials.

The attempted holdup was reported about 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14, along the 3600 block of Pacific Avenue in the Rubidoux area of Jurupa Valley.

“As one officer caught up to the suspect, the suspect stated he had a gun and threatened to shoot the officer,” Deputy Angel Ramos said in a written statement. “The officer, in fear of his life, fired … striking the suspect.”

The statement doesn’t mention whether the suspect actually was armed.

The suspect died at a local hospital. Riverside County coroner’s officials have released no information about the dead man or the incident.
