Ill try writing more when I get time. But as far as unbiased that's extremely hard for me or anybody.

The short and simple way to put it. Theirs not much a difference between democrat or republican. The MAIN difference is who each side appeals to in the population.

The way I see it, theirs the actual political parties and then theirs the sides of the political spectrum that each party panders to.

Going way back In Europe, their were generally two major groups in politics. Their were Conservatives and their were Liberals.

Liberalism gained popularity or gained influence during the age of Enlightenment and afterwards. They rejected the ruling class, the idea of nobility , and divine rights of kings. Generally, they believed in limited government power or separation of powers, equality under the law for all, free press, religious freedom, free markets/capitalism and tended to oppose war..

Their political rivals were the Conservatives. Conservatism was just that: to Conserve the status quo. To conserve the ruling class, the controlled economy with its privileged businesses, to centralize government power and maintain imperial power.

Since then, the two ideologies have been broken in half and mixed up. Because of dozens of historic events that I won't have time to get into, we can just say for now that we know during the early to mid 1900s, the conservatives started using Liberal rhetoric especially after the progressive era of the early part of the century. The progressive era, which gained influence across both sides of the spectrum, was a movement that was all about using government power to fix every problem in the world, both economic and moral. It lead to horrible ideas like "wars to spread democracy", alcohol prohibition, and government interference in the economy.

So where I'm getting at is, the two sides eventually got blurred. And now , under the current Left and Right as we know them, each side still holds some classical "liberal" beliefs and each side still holds conservative beliefs.

Today's "Liberals", hold conservative beliefs. They want to conserve the state, centralize power, raise taxes, regulate the economy, etc. But they still hold some old liberal ideals like freedom of speech, religious freedom, and some are still anti-war.

Where as conservatives are still generally pro militarism, and supportive of the centralized state...They also claim to hold up classical liberal ideals about free markets and limited government. But they adopted progressive ideals about spreading democracy with bombs and using state power to force morality on the public.

So the democrats are supposed to appeal to the modern day liberals and republicans are supposed to appeal to the conservatives.

Since the Liberal ideology has been split into two, the politicians can easily manipulate people and continue to grab power.
Their exist no consistency in the current Left and Right paradigm. and to top it off, the politicians that represent each side don't even hold up the values of the side they represent but the media feeds it to us as if they do and as if theirs a giant ideological debate and struggle going on.

Romeny is the heartless, free market capitalist republican that wants to cut you off welfare, and his running mate paul ryan wants to throw granny off medicare and cut government spending dramatically.

Obama is the peace loving liberal, that cares about the poor and is mr. naive who doesn't want to bomb enough countries.

Of course, all these narratives are total BS and propaganda. Once you know the truth about the ideologies, you start to see right through the nonsense.
