Four people are arrested on attempted murder charges in Fontana

Four young people were arrested on attempted murder charges after they were allegedly involved in shooting at a house in Fontana on Feb. 3, according to the Fontana Police Department.

At about 12:20 a.m., the Fontana P.D. received numerous calls of shots fired in the 9800 block of Chantry. When officers arrived, they found bullet casing in the roadway and discovered that a house in that area had been struck by gunfire.

One of the responding officers noticed a white Honda Accord leaving the area. The officer also noticed that the occupants were acting suspiciously. The officer stopped the vehicle at Citrus Avenue and the Interstate 10 Freeway. The four occupants of the vehicle were detained.

During a search of the vehicle, the officers discovered a fully loaded AR-15 assault rifle and a loaded 22-caliber pistol in the Honda.

After concluding their investigation, the officers arrested the occupants, who were identified as Jonathan Lopez, a 23-year-old Ontario resident; Kenneth Tatum, a 27-year-old West Covina resident; Cameron Phipps, a 20-year-old Fontana resident; and a male juvenile from Moreno Valley.

All four were charged with attempted murder, possession of an illegal assault rifle and participating in a criminal street gang. The three adults were booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, and the juvenile was housed at San Bernardino Juvenile Hall in San Bernardino.

This investigation is ongoing and the incident is believed to be gang related at this time, police said.

No injuries were reported following the gunshots.
