Man arrested for snatching purse from pregnant woman "Fontana"

A man was arrested for allegedly stealing a pregnant woman's purse at a store on Nov. 3, according to the Fontana Police Department.
At about 10:08 a.m., officers responded to a grocery store in the 8200 block of Sierra Avenue for a report of a robbery in progress.

The victim was shopping at the store when the suspect took her purse out of her cart and ran out of the store.

Witnesses chased the suspect through the parking lot. During the chase, the suspect picked up a rock and threatened to hit the witnesses, police said.

Officers saw the witnesses running after the thief and detained him without incident.

The thief dropped the purse and one of the witnesses returned it for the victim.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jorge Renteria, was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center. He faces charges of possession of stolen property and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
