A man appears to have died accidentally from asphyxiation after he lowered himself off an 18-story office building in downtown Sacramento with a rope, a fire official said Monday.
A graffiti artist was accidentally strangled to death by his own rope after lowering himself off an 18-story high-rise, fire officials believe.
The man, who has not been named, was found by passers-by swinging 240 feet in the air next to the 1201 K Tower in Sacramento, Calif., at 7.45 a.m. on Sunday.
A can of spray paint was found on the balcony where the ropes had been anchored, and a tool for etching glass was discovered on the ground.

Observers gather as crews recover the body, which was spotted dangling on Sunday morning.
Police spokesman Michele Gigante said security cameras showed the man entering alone.
Cops think he went up onto the roof, lowered himself down three floors to a balcony and then tried to descend again before getting caught up in the rope.
It is not clear how long he had been dangling before he was found. Rescue services recovered his body at 9 a.m.

Firefighters recovered the body at 9 a.m., about an hour and 15 minutes after it was first spotted.
Marc Bentovoja, battalion chief with the Sacramento Fire Department, told the Silicon Valley Mercury News: "He appeared to be looped into the rope."
"From everything we can tell, he didn't have any special rope repelling equipment on, climbing equipment or anything like that," added Bentovoja.
A coroner will now conduct an autopsy. The man is yet to be formally identified.
