A 19-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night in San Bernardino.

San Bernardino County coroner's officials said Renato McNally Jr. died at the scene in the 2000 block of Chestnut Street at 9:12 p.m.

Police received a call around 9 p.m. about the shooting, and found McNally suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso.

A motive is unknown and no arrests have been made.

SAN BERNARDINO -- At least one shooter opened fire and killed a 19-year-old man as he walked home from a store with friends Monday night, police said.

Renato McNally Jr. of San Bernardino died in the 2000 block of Chestnut Street at 9:12 p.m., San Bernardino County coroner's officials said.

"Without provocation, without words, without anything, he was shot and fell down in the street and died within minutes of being shot," said San Bernardino police Sgt. Gary Robertson.

McNally had gone to a store with two friends and lagged behind to talk to a few people while walking back home, police said.

He was standing 30 to 40 feet from his friends when at least one driver pulled up and opened fire, police said.

"He had separated from (his friends) momentarily, so they weren't in the direct line of fire," Robertson said.

No one else was struck by gunfire.

Detectives are unsure how many vehicles were involved. Witnesses were cooperative, police said, but provided conflicting statements.

Police say McNally did not have gang ties.

He is the 12th person killed in the city this year and the second this month
