WSP hood or PMC?
POMONA - Children gathered around a cordoned-off crime scene Thursday afternoon where a man was lying dead after a reported drive-by shooting just a few blocks from a school.
"He was walking with a girl, and they were both pushing a stroller," said one woman at the West Ninth Street homicide scene who asked not to be identified.
"You hear the gunshots in the area, but during the day and with little babies around - that's just extremely sad."
Pomona police officers said they received a call about 2:20 p.m. for a shooting on Ninth Street just east of Hamilton Boulevard, police officials said.
Paramedics found a 24-year-old Los Angeles resident on the sidewalk suffering from at least one gunshot wound and pronounced him dead.
Witnesses and initial police reports indicate two men shot at the unidentified man from a gray Ford Focus, which then drove off.
Police officers said no one else was injured in the incident.
A man who identified himself as the shooting victim's cousin attempted to reach the deceased man but was not allowed to enter the crime scene. The visibly upset man walked away yelling a racial slur when mentioning the shooters.
Authorities would not release any additional information on the shooters' identities.
"This is very concerning to me," said Tammy Scott, who lives a few blocks from the homicide scene with her six children.
"I've lived here long enough to know that there are shootings that go on in this area, but I've never actually had it happen this close to me."
Scott was leaving a nearby school office on the opposite corner of Hamilton Boulevard and Ninth Street with five of her children when they encountered the grisly scene.
Area schools had been let out early this week for parent conferences, but the usual dismissal times are at 2:25 and 2:55 p.m., which was about the time of the shooting.
The closest open school is Ignacio Lopez Elementary, just two blocks east and one block north on White Avenue.
"Little children could have been shot if it was a regular school day," said another woman who watched as a Pomona officer moved two empty strollers out of the middle of Ninth Street. "This is getting much too out of control."
Residents say there have been growing gang issues in the area, especially among black, Cambodian and Latino gangs.
"This is getting to the point to where I'm seriously thinking about moving," said Scott, as she hurried her children out of the street and onto the sidewalk. "This is getting to be too much."
Anyone with information on this incident can call the Pomona police Homicide Detail at 909-620-2095.
Witnesses said the victim was walking with a child and reportedly two strollers prior to the shooting.

Re: WSP hood or PMC?
thats 12st area, just south of cvp. when i read, "drive by" i already thought it was a black on brown thing. im guessing thats what the "racial slur" thing was about. i have been noticing a lot more black peeps around the west side area, which is just down the street.
