5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
http://www.myfoxdfw.com/story/26678652/five-dallas-isd-students-in-contact-with-ebola-patient-now-monitored
Five Dallas school-aged children who had contact with a man diagnosed with Ebola are being monitored.
Gov. Rick Perry said health officials learned Wednesday that the children have been identified as having contact with the man.
Dallas ISD students in contact with the Ebola patient attended: Hotchkiss ES, Dan D. Rogers ES, Tasby MS and Conrad HS. Jack Lowe ES is being watched because it's adjacent to Tasby.
The students were in school earlier this week, but are now at home and being monitored. They will not attend classes for as many as three weeks, according to health officials.
"Since the students are not presenting any symptoms, there is nothing to suggest that the disease was spread to others including students and staff," Dallas ISD said in a release. Dallas ISD superintendent Mike Miles said additional health and custodial staff will be at the five schools.
Dallas ISD said in statement on its website it will "operate schools on a normal schedule" Thursday and "students are encouraged to attend."
Some parents were upset when they found out the news on Wednesday. District officials said they sent out emails and voicemails this morning and followed up with a flyer that was sent home at the end of the day.
"I just started crying. I was hysterical," said mother Lashundra Johnson. "We know how serious this is."
Some parents told FOX4 they plan on keeping their children out of school for the rest of the week.
"They need to tell us which child it is," said mother Andrea Lopez, who wondered if her children had classes with one of the students in contact with the Ebola patient. "They need to let us know."
The man, now identified by the Associated Press as Thomas Eric Duncan, has been in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas since Sunday.
Duncan is the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the U.S. Health authorities have not revealed his nationality or age. He was listed in serious condition Wednesday.
Authorities say the ambulance crew who transported the man and members of his family are among the 12 to 18 people being monitored after exposure to the man.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Lol at thinking Mexico is a safe place...
Holy shit man. I'm not sure this time whether it's another overblown propaganda scare to bring in Marshall law or if it's really time to panic..

History

And from the WHO
http://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2014/ebola-study/en/
It is interesting that one of the students is attending such a diverse school. 32 languages spoken at one school is a lot.
If it continues to spread in Texas, yes, it would be time to worry. Maybe just fear mongering...

Is it too soon to not allow flights from Africa here? How long before it becomes airborne?

We're doomed!!!! N
DALLAS — A nurse here became the first person to contract Ebola within the United States, prompting local, state and federal officials who had settled into a choreographed response to scramble on Sunday to solve the mystery of how she became infected despite wearing protective gear and to monitor additional places and people possibly at risk.

Maybe she came in contact like the nurse in Spain...

Re: 5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
She said she doesn't know how she contracted it since she thought she followed protocol with protective gear...
If someone with protective gear can contract it, that's not such a good sign...granted, she worked closely with a very ill patient..
But you would think if the disease is that hard to contract and is not airborne like they claim, then the protective gear should've easily protected her...

Re: 5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
The nurse in Spain thinks she used the back of her glove to rub her face. I'm wondering if this nurse did the same. If you have ever worn that stuff, it is super hot. She could have very well done it too.CauseItsReal wrote:She said she doesn't know how she contracted it since she thought she followed protocol with protective gear...

What about the NBC crew?

Yes, I know, TMZ, but that is where I read this story first.

Re: 5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
Even if a slight touch with the back of the glove is enough to contract the disease, that's still pretty worrisome. It doesn't sound all that hard to contract. They make it sound like its hard to contract but it isn't if health care workers with full gear are still getting it.
And if the virus becomes airborne and begins spreading quicker, will they really admit it?
I was reading about a few African countries outside the three that are heavily infected, and many of them have been able to contain the virus pretty well, but they had to stop those people coming from the most infected regions and quarantine the infected people.
The US has decided to keep allowing people from the heavily infected countries and I saw MSNBC is already calling people racist if they're in favor of stopping flights from the ebola stricken countries.

Re: 5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
How is it racist? Ebola knows no ethnicity.
I don't know. Honestly, I don't know what they will tell us. I don't think it is time to worry excessively yet. Just take proper precautions.
It's been around for decades and other illnesses kill more people yearly and don't get this attention.

Re: 5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
They're trying to say that if you don't want people from ebola stricken countries to fly to the US, then you are racist. That's the "logic" of MSNBC and the Left these days. Its really gone that low.
Still I don't think it's time to panic because only a few thousands have died in Africa. If the virus was super contagious than we would see the numbers in the hundreds of thousands.

Re: 5 Dallas students in contact with Ebola
Sarcasm, but yes, I agree. It is not time to panic.

2nd Nurse Infected due to Nurses Not Following Procedure
A second Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital worker who cared for "patient zero" Thomas Eric Duncan has contracted Ebola. Duncan died last week and Nina Pham, the first nurse to be infected after caring for him, remains in quarantine. But don't panic, guys.
This week, according to ABC News, a second worker found herself feverish and then quarantined in the hospital. The Center for Disease Control has already begun confirmation testing.
In addition to this second new Ebola infection, the Texas Health Presbyterian administration are monitoring the other health care workers who came in contact with Duncan's bodily fluids — which is how Ebola is spread (not by air like a cold, for example).
The CDC is blaming the hospital for not training their staff properly on how to safely handle ebola patients like Duncan. The nurses are alleging that Duncan was left in "an open area of a Dallas emergency room for hours," those who treated him weren't given the appropriate protective gear and they were tending to other patients who were not infected with Ebola. The CDC says the Texas Presbyterian staff learned how to care for Duncan on the fly and the nurses add that there were rapidly shifting protocols on how to protect their own health on the job.
With this news, it's not time to break out your doomsday panic room gas mask just yet because — well, honestly, that wouldn't save you. For all the terror and death this disease has caused, it's only infected two people stateside and only one person has succumbed to Ebola. Because of how the disease can be passed from one person to another, Ebola is not airborne, it's not the easiest disease to catch if you aren't a health worker caring for patient two and three. These facts mean there isn't a large chance of Ebola spreading, though you should make sure to be safe, stay away from other people's bodily fluids, wash your hands andstay informed. Most importantly, don't panic.
