Man wounded in shooting dies
An Ontario man wounded in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night in Fontana died early Thursday, Fontana police said.
Fontana police said they found Dion Hunter, 18, shortly before midnight in an alley in the 8800 block of Nuevo Avenue after receiving a call to respond to the area. Hunter was shot in the chest, police said.
Paramedics took Hunter to Kaiser Permanente Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:07 a.m.
Fontana homicide detectives have not named a suspect and have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting was gang related, Fontana Sgt. Jeff Decker said.

UPDATE: 17-year-old shot to death outside his Fontana home
By Jason Pesick on January 13, 2009 8:08 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) | ShareThis
A 17-year-old Fontana High School student died Monday night after he was shot twice in the chest outside his home.
Darious Simmons was pronounced dead at 8:57 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center after police found him lying in the 9800 block of Chantry Avenue
about 8 p.m., according to coroner's and police officials.
Simmons' older brother, 28-year-old Robert Davis, said his brother was killed in the walkway to his home's front door.
He said Simmons liked to rap at school talent shows, as well as play basketball and football.
"He was just an outgoing young teenager who liked to spend time with his family, spend time with his daughter," said Davis, who lives in Upland.
Simmons and his girlfriend had a 1-year-old daughter, Evette Simmons, whom Simmons saw almost every day, Davis said.
Davis said his brother was known at school for rapping and making CDs, and that he wanted to rap professionally after high school.
"That was his main hobby," Davis said.
The brothers grew up in Los Angeles before moving in with their grandparents in Fontana in 1996 because Davis was getting too involved in gang life, he said.
Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker said Simmons did not have a gun on him, and it wasn't clear how he knew the gunman.
"It wasn't a drive-by. It was a walk-up, apparently," Decker said.
He said police have a suspect described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds and about 18 years old.
Police have not ruled out gang involvement in the shooting, Decker said.
Davis said Simmons was not in a gang but that the people who killed him are.
Anyone with information about the case should call Fontana police at (909) 350-7700
