Man held in connection with double homicide
A 20-year-old Bloomington man has been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of two people Friday evening, the Sheriff's Department said Sunday.
John Gilbert Mata was arrested Saturday night after investigators served a search warrant in Victorville.
The sheriff's Special Enforcement Division, Crime Impact Team served a search warrant Saturday about 11:30 p.m. in the 15000 block of Kitfox Lane in Victorville.
During the investigation, detectives linked Mata to the slayings, authorities said.
Mata was booked into Central Detention Center on suspicion of two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He is being held without bail.
Eduardo Gonzalez of Bloomington and Gregory Gutierrez of Riverside were found suffering from gunshot wounds around 6:24 p.m. Friday, according to a San Bernardino County Coroner's news release.
Sheriffs deputies found the men after responding to reports of shots heard in the area of Ninth Street and Pepper Avenue in Bloomington.
Both men were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment but were later declared dead at 6:56 p.m., according to the release.
Deputies later found a third victim, George Gutierrez, who had also been shot had been dropped off at a hospital. George Gutierrez underwent surgery and is expected to survive.
