Brief brawl erupts in Riverside between neo-Nazis and Chicano activist group

A brief brawl broke out on Oct. 24 in Riverside’s Casa Blanca neighborhood between neo-Nazis and counter-demonstrators during a three-hour rally which was heavily guarded by police.
About 20 neo-Nazis, members of the National Socialist Movement Inland Empire Unit, squared off with members of the Chicano activist group Brown Berets on the corner of Madison Street and Railroad Avenue around 10:15 a.m.
The scuffle, witnessed by about 600 pro-immigration demonstrators, began when members of the Brown Berets knocked down the barricades installed by police to ensure safety. For some reason, police allowed both sides to come inches apart just as soon as the neo-Nazis arrived, waving swastika flags while guarded by stormtroopers.
In a flash, both groups exchanged punches and kicks, turning the planned “peaceful” demonstration against illegal immigration into a violent brawl.
Moments later, a man identified as Rudy Rivera of the Brown Berets was detained and transported to a designated police area as the neo-Nazis cheered with profanity. Rivera was later released, said Sgt. Jaybee Brennan, a spokesperson for the Riverside Police Department.
As the rally went on, police stood between both groups as they hurled insults and racial slurs at each other. Occasionally, some people supporting immigration reform threw rocks found at the railroad tracks, hitting an unidentified neo-Nazi in the forehead.
One man identified as Geronimo Rivera, 32, was accused of throwing different items at police and was quickly arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Rivera was held on $25,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
After the scuffle was dissipated, the two sides spent the following two hours insulting each other. While the neo-Nazis yelled “Go back to Mexico you piece of (expletive)” and “Stop stealing our jobs,” pro-immigration demonstrators, including people of many races, religious views and economic backgrounds, yelled “Stop the hatred” and “Nazis go home.”
After their promised three-hour rally, the neo-Nazis, who openly oppose Jews, homosexuals, and people of color, went home as motorcycle officers escorted them to their SUVs and minivans.
The demonstration, watched from above by police helicopters and officers on the roof of a restaurant, caused the closure of Madison Street near Indiana Avenue and the eastbound off-ramp at Madison from Highway 91, said the California Highway Patrol (CHP). It is believed that Metrolink redirected its route as demonstrators blocked the railroad tracks.
This was the second demonstration held at the same location where hundreds of jornaleros (day labor workers) gather every day looking for work. On Sept. 26, eight neo-Nazis were escorted out by police in fear for their lives as hundreds of counter demonstrators opposed their presence in the heavily Hispanic neighborhood.
“Last month there were eight, this time there are about 20, how many will there be next month?” said Ernestina Sanchez, a Fontana resident who supports the immigrant community. “They are like a cancer, they reproduce and if we don’t fight it from the beginning, they will grow. They only bring hate to the region and we simply will not allow that.”
Jeff Hall, a spokesperson for the National Socialist Movement, said “we are doing what the feds and local police don’t do, fighting illegal immigration. They (undocumented immigrants) don’t belong here and all they do is steal jobs from real Americans. They are the problem. Our main goal is to shut down the day labor center. We’ll be back if necessary.”

I remember the Sept. 26 people were talking about it. But had no idea about anything happening on Oct. 24 and that appears to have been even bigger.

I will for sure be at the next one. If you can, post the info before hand if you know when the next one is going down. I'll have to the area and inquire through business owners-but I sure want to be at the next one.

Re: Casa Blanca- Neo Nazis vs Chicano Activist
I saw a group of white activist near down town a few weeks ago. They had signs telling immigrants to get out the country and all kinds of shit, then I seen on the news how people driving by where throwing bottles at them and a few scuffles broke out. Funny shit.

I don't mean to cut in here, chang, but there are various neo-nazis, skinheads, and aryan organizations throughout the world, and there are different aryan brotherhoods in the prisons. Some have truced up for common enemies and for running drug connections. It is my understanding the aryans in prison run alot of meth inside and outside, distributing even transnationally and deal through bikers gangs etc.
I don't think what happened near Casablanca had anything to do with the aryan brotherhood or any prison gang. Tho, who knows?

That's like saying the Brown Berets are street activists for the Eme. Prison level groups don't do things like that to draw attention to themselves.

Re: Casa Blanca- Neo Nazis vs Chicano Activist
thanks for not jumpin down my throat and takin the time to explain things, obviously im a foreigner so i have to be very careful about what i say so as not to come off like an absolute imbecile i understand that alliances are primarily made for reasons of mutual advantage, when your 60% of a given population you have the luxury of fighting among yourselves and ignoring or abusing potential allies its very different when youre only 20%.....i know there are worthwhile and worthless individuals in every ethnic group im sure if i was placed into an environment where my ethnic group was in a minority and was in opposition to another ethnic group who had superior numbers i would stick to my ethnic group and back them up in negative situations, what is highly fucked up is this situation has developed at all.... poor and white poor and black poor and asian or poor and hispanic were all different sides to the same coin.
sorry for preaching but i think we have more pressing problems than the amount of melanin in the next individuals skin. everyone bored now...

Re: Casa Blanca- Neo Nazis vs Chicano Activist
I dont think these are exactly the people that dicer or whoever you directed it to are locked up with. sure some are, but these are more of the 'activists.' they make a public presence(sp?) for what theyre trying to accomplish. the location where this took place, which was near the home depot, which is a spot to pick up day laborer. their goal was to stop people from picking these workers up, and believe the article said or what i heard worked, no laborers were picked up while this demonstration took place.
