FONTANA - An 18-year-old Fontana man died in a shooting Tuesday night, the second killing in the area in about 24 hours.
Residents called the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department at 9:13 p.m. after hearing gunshots in the 15100 block of Sequoia Avenue, an unincorporated area just east of Sequoia Middle School.
"As (deputies) were responding, they were notified by Kaiser hospital that there was a shooting victim there," said sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller.
Juan Carlos Macias Jr. died at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center at 9:27 p.m., according to San Bernardino County coroner's officials.
Deputies did not have anyone in custody and had not determined a motive.
Miller said detectives don't suspect Macias' death is connected to Monday night's shooting in the city's Southridge area.
"There's been no mention that that's their feeling at this point in the investigation," Miller said.
Ricardo Hernandez, 24, of Bloomington died about 8:30 p.m. in the 14500 block of Cherry Avenue following a car-to-car shooting. Hernandez was riding in a vehicle when someone armed with an assault rifle in another vehicle fired more than 10 rounds, striking the victims' vehicle several times.
Two other people were in the car, but were not wounded.
All three are suspected gang members, police said.

Man is shot and wounded in incident in eastern Fontana
Published: Monday, March 21, 2011 11:43 AM CDT
An 18-year-old Rialto man was shot and wounded in an incident in eastern Fontana on March 17, according to the Fontana Police Department.
At 3:18 p.m., officers responded to the area of Locust Avenue and Foothill Boulevard in reference to a shooting that had just occurred.
The officers found the unidentified victim in the parking lot of a gas station located on the southwest corner of the intersection. The man was suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed the shooting happened on Locust, north of Foothill, and the crime was committed by a man about 16-20 years old who was driving a light blue or gray Jeep Cherokee, with multiple primer spots. Investigators are currently attempting to locate the suspect and vehicle.
"At this point in the investigation, it appears as if the victim will recover from his injuries and the shooting suspect is possibly involved with an unidentified party crew," said Sgt. Billy Green of the Fontana P.D.
