another ontario police shooting
ONTARIO - A police helicopter helped track down a 41-year-old Pomona gang member after he shot at an officer following a traffic stop Tuesday morning, police said.
Shortly before 10 a.m., an Ontario police officer stopped Jason Francisco Granado, who was driving a green Mazda 626 in the 1000 block of East Fourth Street, said Officer Bill Russell.
The Pomona resident got out of his car and ran. As he fled, he shot at the officer and blew out the patrol car's window, authorities said.
He ran in and out of a nearby house while multiple shots were exchanged with police. Granado was finally apprehended without further incident in the 1100 block of North Council Avenue, Russell said.
"We haven't had a shooting (in the neighborhood) in a while," Russell said.
According to officials, the police helicopter assisted in the search for the suspect.
"It is critical for us to have air support," said police Capt. John Evans. "It helps our officers focus on driving."
Evans said the police helicopter arrived at the scene immediately after the call went out, and the air unit was able to locate the suspect for the ground crew.
Granado received minor injuries during his attempt to escape and was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, authorities

said.
A semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene, police said.
He was booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of attempted homicide of a peace officer, home invasion robbery and various felony weapons charges, Russell said. Granado is a wanted fugitive from Arizona, where he was in violation of his parole for a prior drug-trafficking conviction, authorities said.
The officer police say Granado fired at, a corporal, was not injured. He has been placed on a routine three-day paid administrative leave while the incident is being investigated, according to authorities
