A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Nov. 17 in connection with the shooting death of a man at Veterans Park in Fontana, according to the Fontana Police Department.
In addition, a 15-year-old boy was arrested on a probation violation during the course of the investigation, police said.
The homicide occurred on Nov. 15 at 7:08 p.m., when two male victims were socializing at the park and were approached by several juveniles from a local gang, police said. A confrontation occurred, and both victims were shot. One victim was pronounced dead and the other one was treated at a hospital for a non-life-threatening wound.
Police determined that four juveniles were identified as being at the scene at the time of the crime. In addition to the two who were arrested, a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were released after being interviewed.
The investigation is still ongoing and detectives are working on identifying other subjects who were at scene at the time of the crime, police said.
----- THE SON of the man who was shot to death has established a GoFundMe page to help raise money for funeral expenses.
"His death has been very hard on our family," wrote Evert Padilla, referring to the murder of his father, identified as Hermogenes Padilla, 61.
"He was shot in his back after he gave the thieves all his money," the son wrote.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner's Division has not yet issued an official report of the incident.
On the GoFundMe page, Evert Padilla wrote that his father "was the best father and friend anyone could ask for. He leaves behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, and his granddaughter."
Evert Padilla said the incident was a "horrible" tragedy.
"We were not expecting his death to come so suddenly, especially the way we lost him!" the son wrote. "We wish we had more time with him. He was loving, caring, and generous."

----- ON THE FONTANA Herald News Facebook page, Eva Cuevas Morales commented that children were playing at the park at the time of the incident.
"This is just crazy. It happened during our children's baseball games and children playing in the playground," Morales said.
Corinne Sandoval Ramirez said on Facebook: "So sad that our local parks aren't even safe anymore. Gotta keep our eyes open at all times."
Amy Henderson said on Nov. 16 that she had been at the park with her daughter's softball team.
"We all heard the shots and saw the helicopter, but we were far enough away," she said. "I feel that no one was threatened, but bullets travel far. They cancelled the games as a precaution."
Henderson said the side of the park where the shooting took place does not have much lighting. Still, she enjoys going to the park.
"I am not afraid to take my kids there. Fontana P.D. does a good job patrolling as I see a car every now and then cruising through," she said.
This was the second deadly shooting at a park in Fontana this year. On July 5, a teenager was killed at Bill Martin Park in northern Fontana, and four suspects were arrested in connection with that homicide.
The investigation of the Veterans Park incident is ongoing. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Vogelsang at (909) 350-7735.

Re: Two shot, one dead at veterans part in Fontana.
Pure fuckery. I'm not even surprised by their ages. This new generation is the worst. No morals, no respect, no sense of history, no loyalty and complete disregard for civilians. These little shit heads are running the streets doped up on pills and codiene 24/7. I've never seen such a pathetic generation in my life....and it's getting worse by the day it seems.

It's funny how they say this new generation is crazy but the early 90's were record murders. In fontana this ain't shit crazy
