22 year old shot and killed in West Fontana

PDATE: Fontana man is shot to death in Fontana on June 28; suspect is arrested

A 22-year-old Fontana man was shot to death on a street in the western unincorporated area of Fontana on June 28, and a suspect has been arrested in the case, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.



At about 8:21 p.m., dispatch received several 911 calls in reference to a shooting in the area of Pine Avenue and Pine Court.

Upon arrival, deputies found Chester Lee Scott on the ground in the intersection suffering from gunshot wounds. Scott was transported to Kaiser Hospital and pronounced deceased at about 9:01 p.m.

Homicide detectives have learned that Scott had a conversation with a suspect or suspects in a separate vehicle at the intersection. Moments later, shots were fired at Scott’s vehicle and he was struck by the gunfire. The suspect vehicle fled westbound on Pine Avenue.

On June 30, the Sheriff's Department announced that Michael Otero had been identified as a possible subject involved in the shooting.

Otero, a 25-year-old Fontana resident, was located by the Specialized Enforcement Detail and detained. Otero was interviewed and later booked at Central Detention Center on murder charges. He was being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned on July 3 in Central Superior Court.
