That's probably the case, but that may also be the reason he was killed. Venturing into a gang neighborhood at that time is never a good idea.

Two ese's were killed off of Baseline earlier this month, I don't want to jump to ill founded conclusions, but maybe that incident was related.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KTLA) -- One person was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting in San Bernardino Tuesday morning.
The death marks San Bernardino's 12th homicide in the month of May and the 20th this year.
Police were called to a report of multiple shots fired in the area of Lenore Avenue and Congress Street around 2 a.m.
When they arrived, they found three victims -- one juvenile and two adults, police said.
One man, identified by family members as Greg Gonzalez, was killed.
His family said Gonzalez was visiting the memorial of a friend who was shot and killed on the same street last week.
A second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated and released at the scene.
The third gunshot victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was undergoing surgery.
There have been no arrests, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
13th, actually, and the 24th this year. Year started off calm and then this month all hell broke loose.
Re: San Bernardino shooting kills one, wounds another (13th homicide this month)
"San Bernardino city has the potential to be very violent, and it looks like, at this point in time, that we're in one of those phases. Hopefully, it will stop soon because it's getting out of control."
SGT. GARY ROBERTSON, San Bernardino Police, Homicide Division supervisor
But lol at the Sun reporting that the city is nearing 1990's level of violence. It's been bad this month, yes, but not close to being like 1990's bad. I remember in 1994 there was a 21 day period in which 19 homicides occurred. Almost one everyday for 3 weeks straight.

SAN BERNARDINO - Police have arrested a 21-year-old Rialto man on suspicion of murdering a 19-year-old San Bernardino man early Tuesday as he visited a memorial where his friend was fatally shot two weeks earlier.
Police arrested Esequiel Cisneros, 21, in the 100 block of South Olive Avenue, on Tuesday in Rialto.
They also believe he tried to murder two other people, who were were wounded in the shooting in the 200 block of South Lenore Avenue.
It was the city's fifth killing in a week and the 12th this month, prompting concern among local law enforcement officials about the mounting toll - which is nearing highs not seen since the 1990s, when gang violence peaked in the area.
"San Bernardino city has the potential to be very violent and it looks like, at this point in time, that we're in one of those phases," said San Bernardino police Sgt. Gary Robertson, homicide division supervisor. "Hopefully, it will stop soon because it's getting out of control."
In Tuesday's incident, San Bernardino police received a call at 2:04 a.m. about gunshots heard near the corner of Mt. Vernon Avenue and Congress Street, said police Lt. Paul Williams.
Gregorio Gonzales Jr., 19, of San Bernardino died at the scene.
Paramedics took a 16-year-old boy to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment and a 20-year-old man received medical treatment at the scene. Police said the hospitalized teen was in stable condition and expected to survive.
Gonzales' relatives lingered around the crime scene until the San Bernardino County Coroner's Department removed the man's body. E.A. Watson, the victim's grandfather, said his grandson was just there to pay his respects to a friend.
"Someone came up to them, asked if they were from the Westside and started shooting at them," Watson said.
When asked Tuesday in front of the Police Department, Capt. Gwen Waters neither confirmed nor denied that the incident was gang-related.
Several friends gathered at the scene but they didn't want to be identified out of fear for their safety. They described Gonzales, known by the nickname "Chile," as a man who was usually "all smiles" and never the source of any problems. He was a 2011 graduate of Arroyo Valley High School in San Bernardino.
"Now people have to fear coming to visit because this could happen," said one woman, a 19-year-old San Bernardino resident.
The 200 block of South Lenore Avenue is where police found the body of Michael Alejandro Espino, 21, of San Bernardino on May 13. He had been shot and was found inside his vehicle.
Flowers and candles remained at the scene for Espino's memorial site Tuesday.
Espino's mother, Maria Espino, came to the cul-de-sac after hearing there was another shooting at the location. She says she's still recovering from losing her son, and the latest shooting is adding to her grief.
"It's like they took my heart," she said.
Diane Sanchez, whose children were friends with Michael Espino, echoed Maria's statements.
"It's just very tragic. It's heartbreaking," she said.
The homicide came after a violent holiday weekend for the city. Police arrested a San Bernardino man Monday, a day after officers say he shot and killed Maurice Major, 29, of Riverside in the 1200 block of North Sierra Way. Anthony Jabar Phillips was booked into jail on suspicion of homicide.
Isaiah Deshawn Brutus, 29, of San Bernardino was found shot to death in the 2600 block of West Foothill Boulevard on Saturday. Police arrested Christopher Canady, 24, on suspicion of killing Brutus.
Gonzales' death brings the number of people killed in the city this year to 22. A case previously treated as a death investigation has since been ruled a homicide.
Angel Cortez, 21, of San Bernardino was found in a 5-foot hole in the 200 block of East 11th Street on May 22. Police discovered his body in the backyard.
Robertson says the most homicides in one month the city has had in his 31-year career with the department was 15 in September 1995. Five people were killed in one of those incidents.
But he agreed that May has been an especially busy month for homicides.
"It's a very large number in a short amount of time based on past experiences through the years," he said.
Anyone with information on the Gonzales case may call Detective Marco Granado, 909-384-5628, or Robertson, 909-841-5361.

San Bernardino killing deemed gang related
By Melissa Pinion-Whitt, The (San Bernardino County) Sun
Posted: 05/30/2012 09:11:18 AM PDT
A deadly triple shooting on San Bernardino's Westside early Tuesday was gang-related, police said today.
Officers say the victims have no known gang ties. But investigators plan to examine the suspect's gang affiliation.
"They are listing it as gang related, based on the comment that was alleged by the family (of a victim) and witnesses," said San Bernardino police Lt. Paul Williams.
Family members of Gregorio Gonzales Jr., 19, of San Bernardino, said Gonzales and two other people came to the makeshift memorial of Michael Espino in the 200 block of South Lenore Avenue about 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Relatives said Gonzales and the two other victims knew Espino, who was shot dead at that location two weeks earlier.
A man approached the group and asked if they were from the Westside. The man opened fire when one of the victims shook his head, a relative said.
Gonzales died at the scene. The other victims were wounded, but survived.
Later that day, police arrested 21-year-old Esequiel Cisneros of Rialto on suspicion of homicide.
Though detectives are looking at the crime as being gang-related, they stopped short of saying that this incident and a rash of other recent homicides is the start of a gang war or a gang turf dispute in the city.
"There's no indication that there's a gang war, or a turf war going on," Williams said.
It was the city's fifth killing in a week and the 12th this month.

Re: San Bernardino shooting kills one, wounds another (13th homicide this month)
I think it's pretty obvious that something is going on. Pretty typical of the SBPD to try and conceal that fact.
Re: San Bernardino shooting kills one, wounds another (13th homicide this month)
And it's not like he would know what the hell he's talking about, since he made his career writing traffic citations and reviewing traffic collisions. Williams is unqualified to make such assessments, not to mention a scary coward to fearful to take on the task of gang unit. I remember getting pulled over by him on various occasions and getting petty citations that most others would have otherwise let go, that was his job then...lol so the fact that he's even commenting on what's going on in the streets is hilarious to me. SBPD; a bunch of incompetent and corrupt cowards.

Yea it's 50/50 on where he could be from. Besides ESR and Sage you also have some PBZ in the area. If South Los is indeed still around they could be in the mix, though highly unlikely. And then you have a lot of random bangers in the area. You might run across a RNZ Maldito member or even a WSV or SSV member. It's too hard too say cuz it isn't directly in Sage's hood.

I doubt it though. I know it says he was a Rialto man but chances are he was from where he was at. Because that would be bringint heat to another hood and no matter what thats not good feel me? So I think he's a san berdo gang member

"Every day" he replied even more serious than before. I know a dude was shot in his head over there and yesterday a dude was shot in the leg or arm. Now 16 damn police cars can't be good

SAN BERNARDINO -- Police are investigating a shooting Friday night that left one man with a gun shot wound in his left arm, San Bernardino Police Department officials said, however investigators aren't sure where the shooting took place.
Authorities received a 911 call at about 9:30 p.m. from the 1400 block of E. Date Street from a woman stating her husband had been shot in the arm, officials said.
When questioned about the incident, the man said he and a friend were walking in a open field near Del Rosa Road and Carpenter Street when they heard gunshots and one struck the man in the arm, said Sgt. Mark Plonski with the San Bernardino Police Department. The man said they then ran home to the E. Date Street address.
Officers went to the alleged site of the shooting but were unable to locate any evidence or witnesses to the shooting.
The man was transported a local trauma center for treatment of his minor injuries, Plonski said.
Eleven days earlier, a man was shot in the head at the same apartment complex where Friday night's shooting call originated, said Plonski.
On Aug. 6, police were called out to the complex on E. Date Street and found a man with a bullet wound to the head. He was taken to a trauma center and was last listed in critical condition.
Plonski said it's too early to tell if either of the shootings are related and said both are still under investigation.
