Re: SAN BERNARDINO
I read the article too. It said the whites or the Italians were the Vino Gang. who used to pick on Mexicans
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
The way I understood the article was the vino gang giving mexicans problems, beating them up etc. It is possiable that the mexicans at that time formed some type of gang to defend themselves. But Ive yet see proof that the Verdugo Flats Gang came out in 1910. everything Ive looked into points the the 70's
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
WE NEED TO ASK SOME OGs FROM VF WHATS UP CUZ I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE OLDER THAN 70s BUT THE EAST-END AINT MY SIDE SO I DONT HAVE A CLUE.

Re: SAN BERNARDINO
Yea it would be good to have someone from VF break the history down from begining to end. Or any from this area.

Thats incorrect information, atleast I would have to say, from what I have gathered and people I have spoked to. Mt.vernon has a long melting pot of chicano history that extends from Colton and San Bernardino. A varrio around Mt.vernon that just popped up in the 70's? I cant see that as being true, its likley the formation of certain clicks could have been formed at that time. Although I dont believe the varrio with the name as we know it by today legitimately formed in 1910 I do however believe the Flats go back much much farther than that of the 1970's. There ROOTS do infact go back to as far as the World War II days and I know this for a fact as I was in contact with an elder who has since past who was hand to hand in the midst of the rumbles and around when organizations of the Chicanos formed over the invasions of the whites, that lived near by at the time. I was told a story from his own perspective about him personally going "cutting up mexicans on Mt.vernon" when he returned from the War in the 40's. At that particular time there was already a "gang" like formation between the chicanos in the area, so why would the varrio decide to form 30 years later? It would make no sense to me. Especially in an area with as much rich history with chicanos as the Flats.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE FLATS WAS THE OLDEST VARRIO IN SB....
BUT I MENTIONED WHAT I THOUGHT ON HERE AND EVERYONE SAID NO AND THAT THE COUNTS AND MOUNT VERNON WERE THE OLDEST

I would say the Flats are definatley one of the varrios with one of the oldest histories behind it. ROOTS is the key word. Anyhow the elder I used to be in touch with who shared his history about the Flats before he past about two years ago, was an old cat who owned an old corporation/company and was a well known business man in Colton and the surrounding area since the 50's and 60's. I just wish I could have spoke more often to him about this, he had a distinct way of story telling.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
I wouldn't doubt there couldve been gangs or a gang in the area way back when. But I'm just saying I don't think the actual Verdugo Flats Gang goes further than the 70's. Not putting this as fact, theirs still more to look into and find out.

Cray, Chicano gangs dont seem to operate so loosely like that or work like that in there beginnings as a neighborhood . If there was already an organization in the Flats in the 40's then you can believe that was most likely the beginning of the varrio in itself. A few of there clicks example Pear street could be plausible to have begun in the 70's but as far as the area an the name in itself, now I do believe that it goes much farther back. Chicanos in varrios like those take pride in there area, and I doubt there would be smaller, unorganized little sects running around with out legitimately claiming the varrio prior to the emergence of the Flats varrio.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
Here is a little story a couple of old Vatos told me when I was around 9. This was in 1975.
They told me how a lot of Varrios got started back in the day when most of the land in the IxEx were groves. And that most of their familia were workers and had there own little areas that were theirs. They protected the area very well due to the fact that it was better than where they came from (Mexico).
These guys if still alive are about 80 now I think.

Re: SAN BERNARDINO
I see what your saying and I don't think its impossiable or anything I just havn't seen any real proof yet. The best thing is to get a few old timers from Verdugo to break it down on what things were like before the 70s.

When you go through some of the old Hoods you can tell where the owners of the groves lived and then almost across the street the workers lived.
I loved hearing the history from the Older Vatos. You know guys in there 70's & 80's

Re: SAN BERNARDINO
Just some things to mention. I was at a car wash on Baseline and seen "WSV LCG" hit up across the street from Fame Liquor. Also on 8th and Wilson in PJ's hood on the Westside I seen a big ESV MBR crossed out by 7th street on a boarded up house. Notable to me since ESV is nowhere near.

Re: SAN BERNARDINO
On the Westside Bloods out number Crips considerably. The number of Blood hoods on the Westside speak for themselves. Cit wide it would be about even.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
Sepulvada Boyz the only blood hood on the ES huh?

Re: SAN BERNARDINO
I dont know much about them. They must be fairly new, since from what I know they where essentially a off shoot of DHB. And some PDL, before the bad blood formed over an incident that led to a dead PDL. At first I thought they where some off shoots of some MOBS that had been in the area for some years.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
I was on 28th street in DH earlier today, and seen a few things that made me think how things have changed in the hood during these past years, things are different now it seems even from just a couple years ag the injunctions also play a large part about that as well. I seen a boarded up house on California/28th that had a gang of strike ups on it. Alot of shit was crossed out except a sloppy "18" that looked fresh hit up on the garage door. An "LA" was hit up along side it but no clicks no specifics which leads me to believe its some kids. There was a few others that I couldn't make out that had been crossed out by the youngsters on 28th. Shame I dont have a good camera to snap some flicks. Back when I was out there it was VERY rare that anyone would get that close in the frontlines of DH to strike up some bullshit like that especially on 28th. You where asking for an easy way to get layed out if you managed to get that far in with out getting noticed.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
yeah, i saw that house awhile back myself... Right there on the corner. It actaully looks like a cool Lil house too. when i first saw it, it only had what looked like 18st. hitups though, nothing was crossed out. YET!
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
They tore the original house that was on that corner and fixed it up, its been boarded up ever since. Yeah there alot more shit on it now.
Re: SAN BERNARDINO
